About The Position

The Leave Specialist is responsible for administering the organization’s leave of absence and workers’ compensation programs in compliance with federal and state regulations. This role serves as the primary point of contact for employees and managers navigating leave and injury-related processes, ensuring consistent, equitable, and legally compliant outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years of direct experience administering FMLA and workers’ compensation programs for a primarily hourly workforce
  • Strong working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, ADAAA, state leave laws, and workers’ compensation regulations
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Administer all aspects of FMLA, ADA accommodations, short-term disability, and other leave programs in accordance with applicable federal and state law
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims from first report of injury through return-to-work, coordinating with insurance carriers, medical providers, and legal counsel as needed
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all leave and claims activity in the HRIS and case management systems
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource to employees, managers, and HR Business Partners on leave and workers’ compensation matters
  • Monitor regulatory updates and recommend policy revisions to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Identify trends in leave usage and workers’ compensation claims and present findings to HR and Safety leadership teams
  • Coordinate return-to-work and transitional duty programs with department managers
  • Develop and deliver training programs for HR Business Partners and people managers on leave administration processes, regulatory requirements, and best practices for supporting employees through leave-related situations
  • Partner closely with the Safety team to ensure potential OSHA recordable incidents and lost time cases are accurately identified, reported, and tracked in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and internal protocols
