About The Position

The Leave Management Specialist serves as the organization’s subject matter expert and primary owner of all employee leave programs. This role is responsible for the administration and oversight of leave policies, including FMLA, ADA, state-specific leaves, and company-sponsored programs. In addition, the position provides support to the Payroll & Benefits team in areas such as benefits administration, payroll coordination, and related operational activities as needed. The Leave Management Specialist partners closely with employees, managers, HR Generalists, and HR Business Partners to deliver a seamless, compliant, and well-coordinated leave experience while balancing business needs with employee support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5+ years of experience in leave administration, HR operations, or benefits administration.
  • Strong working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and state/local leave laws (multi-state experience preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage high-volume, complex casework.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with sound judgment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, laws and regulations accurately.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare or multi-site organizations, preferred.
  • Experience supporting large, multi-state employee populations, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full lifecycle of employee leave cases, including intake, eligibility, documentation, approvals, and return-to-work coordination
  • Administer and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local leave laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, USERRA, state-specific programs)
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees on leave, providing clear guidance on processes, benefits, and expectations
  • Coordinate benefits during leave, including communicating coverage, tracking premiums, and monitoring payments
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready records within the HRIS and ensure timely, compliant documentation and communications
  • Partner with HR, leadership, and legal on complex or high-risk cases, including accommodations and compliance matters
  • Educate managers and stakeholders on leave policies, processes, and responsibilities
  • Support Payroll & Benefits operations, including leave-related payroll impacts, benefits administration, and open enrollment
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, compliance, and employee experience
  • Track and analyze leave data to support reporting, trends, and business decisions
