About The Position

Founded in 2013, Digital Moment (formerly Kids Code Jeunesse) is a Montreal-based charity part of a global network of organizations working to mobilize communities to build a better future through digital literacy education. For over a decade, Digital Moment has been advancing digital literacy by focusing on creating impactful programs and experiences for youth and their communities on digital skills such as coding, algorithm and data literacy, and artificial intelligence. We are currently looking to hire a Learning Specialist Intern working in a hybrid model (in person in different locations in the Montreal area, and virtually), to join our team to help support an agile team environment that thrives for continuous innovation and growth. Reporting to the Program & Training Manager, the Digital Moment Learning Specialist Intern will provide instructions to our main audience of K-12 teachers across Canada, as well as their students. Topics include coding, artificial intelligence, computational thinking, and digital citizenship. Digital Moment uses a variety of online tools to make important but abstract topics tangible. As a Learning Specialist Intern, they will be responsible for acquiring or gaining knowledge of the platforms, the materials and the content and presenting the material to teacher and students in a way that is engaging and empowering. They will have opportunities to use their particular expertise and share it with others. Depending on program needs, they may also deliver instruction to teachers or participate in events for a community audience.

Requirements

  • Experience as a teacher, instructor, camp counselor, or instructional designer for youth in school-based or informal settings;
  • A passion for technology and education, and an interest in learning new things;
  • Experience with K-12 STEM/coding/gaming environments (e.g. block coding, Scratch, micro:bit, Minecraft p5js/javascript, python);
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, including: schedule management, rehearsal and preparation, and instruction/facilitation;
  • A reliable space at home (or other quiet location) with dependable internet connectivity;
  • Flexible availability (during the day, some evenings and weekends).
  • Availability to travel within the Greater Montreal region and occasionally in the province of Quebec to attend in-person events ;
  • Must be fluently bilingual in both French and English.
  • Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the transformation of workshop materials into digital formats, prioritizing pedagogical integrity and effective learning design.
  • Develop engaging short-form videos that supplement lesson plans and simplify the learning and sharing experience for educators.
  • Apply creative strategies to enhance existing lesson plans, ensuring content is modern, interactive, and impactful.
  • Utilize a diverse suite of digital tools to optimize content delivery on the learning platform.
  • Bridge the gap between traditional teaching methods and digital accessibility through thoughtful instructional design.
  • Carry out and support innovative, high quality Instruction;
  • Carry out live instruction in varying formats and contexts (mostly online, occasionally in-person);
  • Support youth in their learning experiences;
  • Facilitate round table discussions with youth;
  • Create recorded instruction in varying formats and contexts;
  • Follow Digital Moment’s processes for collecting and recording necessary data about your workshops;
  • Take part in peer observation and feedback processes;
  • Communicate with educators and instructors to have a strong understanding of their needs and prepare them for workshops;
  • Prepare marketing and communication materials to promote initiatives or to share the impact of our workshops.
