About The Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position with work-study eligibility. This position will be an integral member of the Chester Fritz Library (CFL) Learning Lab team. The Learning Lab is a hands-on, experiential learning space in the library where students, faculty, and community members can develop skills utilizing technologies and equipment for making, designing, prototyping, and recording — including large-format art printers, vacuum-forming machines, fabric arts machines, laser and vinyl cutters, and audio and video production equipment. The Learning Lab team keeps this collection running, growing, and understandable to the people who walk in and want to try it. Successful candidates will be flexible and able to support all roles but based on experience and interests, some student assistants may spend more time on support of equipment, documentation, or patron support. Applicants are not required to already be experts on the equipment but will be expected to become literate across the technologies and equipment. The successful candidates will be curious, patient, and comfortable learning new hardware and software by reading, trying, and asking questions. They will bring careful attention to detail, take initiative, and communicate clearly in writing and in person, and they will work well both independently and on a team. Relevant experience may come from coursework, personal projects, or hobbies in fields such as music production, studio art, engineering, computer science, or design — but no particular background or major is required. There will be opportunities to shape how new tools and equipment are introduced to patrons. Work schedule and work hours will be shaped by the needs of the services, but some flexibility will be available. Summer hours may be available.
