About The Position

High Point University’s Learning Excellence Program is a fee-based academic coaching program that provides intentional academic skill development and support to students through weekly meetings and additional support services. The primary role of the Learning Excellence Coordinator is to serve as the substitute Learning Excellence Specialist and the substitute ADV 1101 instructor, when needed. When serving in the Learning Excellence Specialist role, the Learning Excellence Coordinator will assume all essential functions, responsibilities and duties aligned with the Learning Excellence Specialist position. When serving in the ADV 1101 instructor role, the Learning Excellence Coordinator will assume all responsibilities and duties aligned with the instructor position. When not serving in these two roles, the Learning Excellence Coordinator will assist the Learning Excellence leadership team with prospective family communication, admissions and campus visits, and supporting the overall operations and programming initiatives of the office. This role will also assist the Learning Excellence leadership team with social media and marketing of programming events. The Learning Excellence Coordinator will provide HPU students, staff, faculty, and families with first-class customer service through meaningful and positive interactions. The individual selected for this position will support the mission, goals, and values of the Learning Excellence Program and High Point University. The individual must be able to multi-task, communicate in an appropriate and professional manner, have excellent technology skills, work well in a large team environment, and have a true passion for working with college students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in an education related field.
  • 3 years of customer service experience in a professional setting.
  • 2 years of work experience in a college/university or high school setting.
  • Knowledge of HPU and an understanding of the university’s culture.
  • Significant computer knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is required.
  • Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organization, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Great attention to detail and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with a sense of urgency while maintaining composure and professionalism.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, including within a team environment.
  • Must be able to multi-task, communicate in an appropriate and professional manner, have excellent technology skills, work well in a large team environment, and have a true passion for working with college students.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred in an education related field.
  • Experience with Colleague/Datatel, Blackboard, Canva, and Starfish are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the substitute Learning Excellence Specialist and the substitute ADV 1101 instructor, when needed.
  • Assume all essential functions, responsibilities and duties aligned with the Learning Excellence Specialist position when serving in that role.
  • Assume all responsibilities and duties aligned with the ADV 1101 instructor position when serving in that role.
  • Assist the Learning Excellence leadership team with prospective family communication, admissions and campus visits.
  • Support the overall operations and programming initiatives of the office.
  • Assist the Learning Excellence leadership team with social media and marketing of programming events.
  • Provide HPU students, staff, faculty, and families with first-class customer service through meaningful and positive interactions.
  • Support the mission, goals, and values of the Learning Excellence Program and High Point University.
  • Deliver the HPU experience through in-person, phone and email interactions.
  • Complete prospective family informational meetings.
  • Assist with greeting and welcoming students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist the leadership team with managing the Learning Excellence application and admission process for prospective students.
  • File and maintain student personnel records electronically, when needed.
  • Provide support to all Learning Excellence team members, as directed by the Learning Excellence leadership team.
  • Assist the leadership team with managing the social media account and generating ideas for weekly posts.
  • Assist the Assistant Director of LE Programming and Assistant Director of LE Operations with programming events and operational tasks, as needed.
  • Support the professional tutoring program with various needs to support weekly flow.
  • Serve as the substitute Learning Excellence Specialist, as directed by the Wolkoff Family Assistant Vice President of Learning Excellence and Associate Directors.
  • Conduct weekly individual meetings with Learning Excellence Program participants to monitor and evaluate academic progress including assistance with accessibility resources and support, time management, organizational and study skills, transition to college life, social-emotional management, interpersonal skills, learning style strategies and coping skills.
  • Assist student participants in developing, managing, and implementing personal academic action plans.
  • Develop weekly reports based on weekly individual meetings.
  • Provide feedback to parents of Learning Excellence Program participants through consistent communication and written weekly reports.
  • Support the functions and efforts of the Learning Excellence Program, including developing partnerships within the University’s ecosystem of student support: Office of Student Success, Office of Accessibility Resources and Services, Office of Student Life, Office of Academic Services, Academic Affairs, Office of Career and Professional Development, and other support personnel.
  • Make referrals to other University services/offices as appropriate (Office of Student Success; Accessibility Resources and Services Office; Career and Professional Development; University Registrar’s Office; Student/Residence Life; Counseling Services; Academic Affairs).
  • Assist and support the programs offered within the various student support services offices on campus.
  • Serve as the substitute ADV 1101 instructor, when needed, during the year.
  • Carry out assigned lesson plans.
  • Facilitate in-class activities that promote academic skill development.
  • Grade coursework, as appropriate.
  • Communicate student challenges via the Starfish early alert system.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Wolkoff Family Assistant Vice President of Learning Excellence and Associate Directors of Learning Excellence.
  • Represent the HPU experience and brand as a point of contact for the Learning Excellence Program.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the university calendar, important deadlines, departmental communication outreach, and university resources.
  • Recognize sensitive internal information and exercise complete discretion when assisting in private matters.
  • Work under limited supervision at times.
