About The Position

The Learning & Curriculum Manager, Creative Learning is responsible for developing innovative education programs and leading complex projects in the Creative Learning portfolio in collaboration with provincial and national stakeholder organizations. The Learning & Curriculum Manager may be assigned to one or more projects depending on the needs of the Division. Key competencies of the role include relationship building and effective communications with stakeholders, planning and overseeing new program design to ensure it addresses learning needs of health care practitioners, developing funding proposals, reports, and contracts, developing and actioning work plans, leading committees and working groups, overseeing project operations including program finances and budgets, planning human resources and optimizing team performance, and leading research and evaluation related to activities within assigned projects. This role requires a high level of digital literacy and the ability to strategically leverage educational technologies, data, and emerging digital tools to design, deliver, and continuously improve innovative learning experiences. The Learning & Curriculum Manager is a key member of the UBC CPD Creative Learning team. The incumbent contributes their creativity, project management, and relationship building skills as well as their educational expertise to growing the education and innovation capacity of the Division. The position provides functional and project oversight to designated UBC CPD staff and works collaboratively with UBC CPD Medical Directors, Medical Leads, Project Sponsors, and other stakeholders. More broadly the Learning & Curriculum Manager is expected to participate in wider activities within the Division such as strategic planning, staff training and development, and furthering the Division’s mission and vision.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education.
  • Minimum of six years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and leads the design and implementation of one or more educational programming initiatives within UBC CPD and is accountable for project development from initiation to closure.
  • Works collaboratively with Medical Directors, Medical Leads, Project Sponsors, and UBC CPD senior leadership to establish project goals and objectives.
  • Identifies opportunities for and oversees implementation of user experience research and needs assessment activities to inform learning management system updates and program design.
  • Provides internal and external consultation on best practices and procedures regarding education planning, design, development, and delivery aligning with the vision and mission of UBC CPD.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships and facilitates ongoing communication with key internal and external provincial and national stakeholders.
  • Develops detailed and effective project plans including scope, design, schedule, and project team responsibilities; develops tracking tools; monitors and communicates progress; manages and communicates changes to project scope and schedule.
  • Resolves any issues and solves problems throughout project life cycle.
  • Oversees and optimizes the use of the UBC CPD Moodle Learning Management System and related digital tools to ensure effective, accessible delivery of online learning experiences.
  • Performs risk management activities to minimize and communicate project risks; identifies barriers to project implementation and long-term success.
  • Hires, oversees, and provides direction to project staff to ensure efficient and optimal delivery of new or ongoing educational programs; responsible for performance management and termination of staff if required.
  • Responsible for problem-solving staff issues including staff workload and appropriate project allocation and assignments.
  • Provides guidance to stakeholders and project sponsors regarding accreditation/certification standards and oversees the implementation of accreditation/certification requirements into education initiatives.
  • Develops, implements, and analyzes detailed operating budgets including forecasts, allocating expenditures, and resolving discrepancies; ensures compliance with UBC and Program Sponsor financial reporting requirements.
  • Develops funding proposals for developing new educational projects.
  • Designs, plans and implements evaluation strategies and oversees education project evaluation activities.
  • Oversees the collection, collation and analysis of learning analytics and program and evaluation data to inform continuous improvement.
  • Leads development of learning outcomes, identifies essential educational content and subject matter expert requirements, proposes learning activities and evaluation methods.
  • Supports partners to expand current program and service offerings and develop new initiatives.
  • Uses expertise in instructional design to lead and motivate project team to prepare learning and training materials for varying education formats (self-directed asynchronous learning opportunities, webinars, blended learning, virtual and face-to-face sessions, and resources).
  • Leads development of communication strategies and marketing campaigns for assigned projects; and oversees the development, planning and implementation of project and program-specific marketing materials, publications, and news articles and ensures they are appropriately tailored to learners.
  • Researches, synthesizes, and compiles information from multiple sources into status reports or updates, as required by program sponsors and other stakeholders.
  • Liaises with other UBC CPD projects and staff to identify synergies and collaborative possibilities; makes recommendations to UBC CPD leadership team.
  • Stays up-to-date on literature in CPD and adult education to build understanding regarding best practices for pedagogical effectiveness in a healthcare and medical context.
  • Stays current with emerging trends in digital learning, artificial intelligence, and educational technologies to inform innovations in program design.
  • Supports the fulfillment of UBC CPD’s mission and vision through active participation in UBC CPD working groups or staff committees (e.g., Strategic Planning Working Groups).
  • Demonstrates the highest level of professionalism in all interactions.
