About The Position

The Davis Center at the Harlem Meer is a new, state-of-the-art recreational facility located in Central Park, New York City. It features a large outdoor area with a pool that converts to a green space and a full-size ice rink. An adjacent building provides locker rooms, restrooms, and indoor gathering space. Managed by Sports Facilities Management, LLC (SFM), the center aims to be a hub for recreational and community programming, focusing on fun, fulfillment, and service to enrich the community and support career and personal growth. Requirements

  • At least 5 years of appropriate coaching/teaching sport in youth programs for athletes of various aptitudes.
  • Proven experience as a coach or in a related role, with a strong background in figure skating.
  • Ability to demonstrate and participate in on-ice activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, predominantly after-school and weekends.
  • Must possess current CPR/FIRST AID certifications, or willingness to obtain within a specified period.

Nice To Haves

  • Coaching licenses (or active pursuit of) preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISI and USFSA skating programs.
  • Neat in appearance and professional in manner and communication.
  • Inspiring confidence and self-belief.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the facility's youth (and some adult) ice skating offerings, including Developmental Classes (ages 3-8), After-School/Home School programs, Clinics, Camps, Private/Semi-Private Trainings, Performance Sessions, and Birthday Parties.
  • Coach and develop skaters.
  • Design and implement training programs.
  • Provide instruction and feedback.
  • Foster a positive and competitive environment for athletes.
  • Teach relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes, individuals, and groups.
  • Develop and implement training programs tailored to the skill levels and goals of athletes.
  • Conduct on-ice and off-ice training sessions, focusing on technical skills, tactics, and physical conditioning.
  • Teach fundamental and advanced techniques of the Learn to Skate program.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and enhance athlete performance and needs.
  • Provide suitable feedback via positivity, encouragement, example, and motivation.
  • Demonstrate an activity clearly by breaking down the task or technique into a sequence.
  • Be friendly and courteous with athletes, parents, and team members.
  • Identify athlete strengths and areas for development.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all athletes.
  • Implement the curriculum in an accurate, creative, positive, and efficient fashion.
