About The Position

At E Source, we help utilities make sense of complexity in a rapidly changing landscape, and we’re looking for a Leak Detection Crew Manager to help shape how that impact shows up in the world. E Source is a research, data/analytics, and technology focused professional services firm focused exclusively on the Utility industry in North America. We help utilities target and serve their customers more effectively, enhance and optimize their grid, and leverage operating best practices and technologies to manage their business more effectively. Headquartered in Texas, we have 450+ employees across the US and Canada. As E Source’s leak detection work has grown significantly over the past several years, our field team has grown right along with it, from just 5 to 6 field technicians in 2022 to 15 today, with continued growth expected. As a Leak Detection Crew Manager, you’ll help manage and support field operations at this new scale. This role is ideal for someone with strong field experience who can build repeatable processes, coach and develop technicians, and bring consistency and quality to a fast-growing team.

Requirements

• Strong field experience in leak detection or a similar technical discipline, and can accurately assess quality, consistency, and adherence to standards
• Enjoy coaching and developing technicians and crew leaders
• Bring strong organizational skills to manage scheduling and resource coordination across multiple teams and locations
• Care about building a strong safety culture
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret field data and translate findings into actionable recommendations
• Use data analysis, visualization, and reporting tools such as Microsoft Office, geographic information system (GIS) applications, or similar analytical systems
• Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
• Are comfortable building new processes and programs from the ground up as a team scales
• Are in good physical condition and able to perform strenuous field work in all weather conditions
• Can stand or walk for long periods of time
• Hold a valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record
• Are self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently
• Are willing and able to travel for extended periods of time
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical, scientific, or related field
• Strong hands-on field experience in leak detection or a closely related technical discipline
• Experience supervising or leading field technicians or crews
• Experience managing scheduling, staffing, and resource coordination across multiple teams or locations
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Physical capability for strenuous outdoor field work in all weather conditions
• Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time
• Comfort with technology, including tablets and Microsoft Office applications
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to travel for extended periods of time
• No DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions within the past 5 years
• No license suspensions or revocations within the past 3 years
• No more than 2 moving violations or 1 at-fault accident in the past 3 years

Nice To Haves

• Experience with water distribution systems, leak detection, water loss management, or utility field operations
• Experience managing field teams through a period of rapid growth
• Experience developing or updating standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Have a plumbing background or experience working with hand tools
• Have experience with GIS applications or field data collection tools

Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise, and develop field technicians and crew leaders
• Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and training activities
• Foster a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to all safety policies and procedures
• Support workforce planning, staffing, and succession development initiatives
• Develop and maintain a scalable training program for new hires
• Collaborate with project managers and utility clients to communicate findings and support project execution
• Monitor field work quality and establish objective methods for evaluating team performance, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to standards
• Coordinate staffing, project assignments, and scheduling across multiple teams and project locations to ensure operational efficiency
• Oversee vehicle fleet, tool, and equipment inventory, including tracking, maintenance, repairs, and replacements
• Evaluate and update existing procedures to support expanded operations with varying scope requirements and a broader client base
• Review timesheets, expenses, and travel arrangements to improve cost efficiency, accuracy, and consistency, and help ensure reliable data, reporting, and compliance with company processes
• Work primarily during normal business hours, with occasional nights or weekends as needed
• Travel throughout the US as needed to support crews across multiple project locations, occasionally for extended periods
• Stay up to date on technological advancements in the field, with the intent of implementing those advances considered beneficial for E Source
