About The Position

The League Manager is responsible for the end-to-end operation of a Brodie location. This includes leading a floor crew on game nights to ensure games start on time and adhere to the Brodie Standard, as well as managing administrative tasks such as payroll, scheduling, league health, and communication with captains. The role also involves outreach to fill and maintain gym capacity. The League Manager reports to a District Manager and may partner with a City Launcher in new or smaller markets. This role is ideal for individuals who have prior team leadership experience, maintain high standards, and can create a positive experience for athletes.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience leading people, including hiring, scheduling, correcting, and developing a team of 3 or more in industries like restaurants, hospitality, retail, fitness, events, or sports operations.
  • Proven ability to own and manage a recurring responsibility, such as a weekly shift, location, program, or season, using systems rather than solely relying on memory. Demonstrated ability to identify and correct issues when they arise.
  • Possess the warmth and presence to make athletes feel welcomed and remembered in a gym environment.
  • A genuine connection to basketball and the local community, demonstrated through playing, coaching, refereeing, organizing, or captaining.
  • Full commitment to a full-time role as their only job, with availability for game nights (evenings and weekends) and weekday work (approximately 9am-5pm).
  • Must live in or near the market they manage, be able to work on-site at Brodie venues on game nights, have reliable transportation for moving equipment, and be available for required training and check-ins at HQ.
  • Comfortable with sales and follow-up, able to convert verbal agreements into paid registrations, and diligent in logging activities. Experience with CRM, payroll, timesheet, or scheduling tools is a plus.
  • Ability to quickly adopt new tools such as PlayerOne, Rippling, and Slack.

Nice To Haves

  • Having played in a Brodie league or having extensive knowledge of it as an athlete.
  • Possessing a network within the local basketball or recreational sports scene.
  • Experience with a CRM, payroll, timesheets, or scheduling tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a floor crew of typically 10-15 staff (Scorekeepers, Referees, Athlete Experience Specialists, Athlete Highlight Specialists, media staff) on game nights, ensuring all courts are covered, staff are rotated, and standards for uniforms, positions, focus, and branding are met. Coach, document, and escalate performance issues.
  • Ensure game nights run according to the Brodie Standard, including setting up the gym, conducting pre-game meetings, starting games on time, streaming games live, resolving disputes, and completing post-game reporting within 4 hours.
  • Manage the athlete experience by greeting captains, engaging with players and captains between games, responding to messages within 24 hours, and following up on complaints within 48 hours.
  • Achieve retention and growth targets by re-signing teams, converting players, driving referrals, and conducting outreach to captains, lapsed teams, and personal networks. Log all outreach activities in the CRM.
  • Build and manage the season schedule, including the regular season, playoffs, and all-star games, using PlayerOne. This includes placing and balancing divisions, onboarding captains, rostering free agents, and managing jerseys, equipment, and court bookings.
  • Oversee administrative tasks, including reviewing and approving staff timesheets and payroll in Rippling, maintaining accurate stats and standings, and ensuring overdue balances are settled before play.
  • Work independently on non-game days, maintaining visibility with the District Manager through the CRM, Season Success Checklist, and weekly check-ins. Proactively raise concerns and present plans when issues arise.
  • Develop a location that can operate independently by partnering with the District Manager to hire, train, and develop the crew, creating checklists and handoffs for smooth operation in the manager's absence, and identifying opportunities for expansion when the location is at capacity.
