About The Position

We are currently looking for 4 Leading Electrical Technicians to join our Substation Maintenance team. Reporting to the Substation Operations Supervisor, you will lead a team of professionals at our mentioned locations. As a member of the Substation Maintenance team, you must have a strong working knowledge of the purpose and operation of all electrical/electronic equipment related to substations, including PLC's, solid state relaying, remote SCADA telemetry and all associated protection equipment. You must also have a strong electrical and mechanical working knowledge of substation transformers, breakers, reclosers, switches, and various other substation equipment. You will direct and perform all aspects of installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of electrical/electronic substation equipment on the Transmission/Distribution System (e.g. reclosers, breakers, transformers, controls, protective relays, telecommunication). You will be required to assist with the operation of the NSP electrical transmission system related to switching and isolation of transmission lines for maintenance or other operational requirements. You may be required to travel throughout the province for work related to maintenance, reliability and customer restoration. You will be required to assist with emergency / storm related power restoration. You may be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province. You will be required to provide mentorship to electrical technicians and electrical technician apprentices. You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills. You will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives. Your primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of work location depot, and you will be available for after-hour emergency service restoration including rotational standby duty if required. This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

Requirements

  • Possess a Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology from an accredited program recognized by TechNova.
  • Five (5) years experience maintaining electrical equipment related to transmission and distribution.
  • Proven problem resolution skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
  • Proficient with troubleshooting electrical / electronic equipment and software use and programming in an industrial setting.
  • Skills and physical capabilities to perform all duties, including working at considerable heights and within watercourses.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong computer aptitude.
  • Ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.
  • Hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a minimum of two years driving experience.
  • Provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI.
  • Primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of work location depot.
