About The Position

We are currently seeking a Leadhand Carpenter who will perform carpentry work by reading blueprints and assembling materials into structures. Measures, cuts, and shapes materials, estimates project requirements, and operates hand and power tools safely. Conducts inspections, maintenance, and repairs while ensuring proper care of tools and equipment.

Requirements

  • Fully certified carpentry journeyperson with completion of all apprenticeship levels (L1–L4) and provincial certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in multi-family wood frame construction.
  • Skilled in rough and finish carpentry, installations, and construction techniques, with working knowledge of current building codes.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and requirements.
  • Physically capable with manual dexterity to perform tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Strong time management skills; able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Competent with hand tools, power tools, and measurement instruments.
  • Thorough understanding of safety policies and safe working practices.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and an effective communicator with a strong work ethic.

  • Additional trade-specific training or safety certifications considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and apply detailed blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications with precision.
  • Take measurements and calculate the sizes and quantities of materials required for projects.
  • Cut, shape, and smooth lumber according to project specifications.
  • Construct window frames, doors, staircases, brattices, building frames, and other structures using raw materials or pre-constructed components.
  • Assign tasks to carpenters and apprentices as per foreman.
  • Create and adjust project schedules as per foreman.
  • Estimate time, material, equipment, and supplies needed for the project.
  • Inspect finished products and perform repairs or maintenance as needed.
  • Comply with all company policies, safety regulations, and governmental guidelines.
  • Estimate time, materials, equipment, and supplies required for each project.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and other carpentry-related equipment safely and effectively.
  • Perform errands as assigned, including transporting and delivering materials.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Mentor and train apprentices (L1–L4), providing guidance on techniques, safety, and workflow.
