About The Position

The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) oversees the development of professional standards and the delivery of quality training for law enforcement officers, corrections officers, parole and probation officers, firefighters, telecommunicators, and emergency medical dispatchers. DPSST is also the regulatory agency that enforces employment and training standards for the above listed public safety disciplines and licenses proprietary security managers, security contractors and officers, polygraph examiners, and private investigators. Requirements

  • Six (6) years of professional level experience related to leadership development, frontline supervision and organizational management and/or based on ORS 181.610 through 181.690.
  • Experience must have included delivering structured training sessions or on-the-job training.
  • College-level coursework related to the subject matter of instruction may substitute on the basis of 45-quarter units per year of experience up to a maximum of three years.
  • Proficient in developing and implementing comprehensive leadership training programs.
  • Ability to revise and enhance existing leadership curriculum while staying informed on emerging trends and best practices in the field.
  • The ability to travel statewide to deliver quality instruction, resources and provide accessible resources for leadership curriculum to public safety agencies statewide.
  • Working experience in public safety such as Police, Fire, Parole and Probation, Corrections.
  • Demonstrated expertise creating and sustaining strong and productive working relationships with constituents and staff.
  • Successful candidates for this position will be subject to a computerized criminal history check. Adverse background information will be reviewed and could result in withdrawal of a conditional job offer or termination of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, coordinates, and delivers public safety training related to leadership development, frontline supervision, and organizational management at DPSST and locations throughout the state of Oregon.
  • Assesses the availability of resources and determines cost effectiveness relating to assigned training programs and projects.
  • Guides, motivates, and counsels advisory groups, contract, part time, agency loans and students for optimum performance, ensuring policy compliance with standards and guidelines.
  • Provides oral and written evaluation reports on status of programs and projects, including recommendations for curriculum development.
  • Facilitates workgroups and actively participates in researching, developing/updating, implementing, and evaluating training programs for public safety professionals related to leadership, supervision and management.
  • Ensures programs and projects are meeting the needs of constituents.
  • Provides subject matter expert instruction in leadership, supervision and management courses to public safety professionals of all levels of experience.
