The Role As a Lead Warranty Performance Manager, you will be responsible for establishing the supplier’s shared warranty cost and financial recovery. Our efforts instantaneously impact General Motors bottom line. You will actively participate in developing strategies, negotiations, executing regional warranty budgets, and collaborating with the suppliers and stakeholders. This role involves a significant amount of initiative, analytical work, and independent judgment. Becoming a subject matter expert is a requirement of the role, either technical or commercial in nature. You will collaborate with other Warranty Performance personnel, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Finance and other business stakeholders and Supply Base. You will engage in the crafting and execution of net warranty reduction and cost recovery strategies. The chosen candidate will be part of a team responsible for providing background information, creative approaches based on analyzed qualitative and quantitative data, thoughtful presentations, and innovative strategies. What You'll Do The Lead Warranty Performance Manager strategizes and executes net warranty reduction and cost recovery activities from initiation through case closure. The role requires analysis of the issues, development of strategy and obtaining cross functional alignment. Work involves functioning as liaison between Purchasing, Engineering, Supplier Quality, Internal Product Investigations, Manufacturing, and suppliers to drive net warranty reduction and recover costs related to field actions and warranty. Considerable initiative, attention to detail and independent judgement is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5+ years’ experience in commodity purchasing, warranty, supply chain, engineering, manufacturing, product development, logistics or program/product management
  • Relationship Management - Develops and maintains constructive, cooperative working relationships
  • Negotiation - engage in collaborative discussions to reach meaningful agreements
  • Analytical Thinking - Consider a range of factors in decision making to determine solutions and their impacts

  • Highly skilled at working independently and in a team environment with a high level of ambiguity.
  • Advanced in Microsoft Office Suite including OneNote, Teams, and SharePoint, PartLink
  • Ability to travel 5% of the time domestically

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of OEM experience, including strategy development and supplier management
  • Self-motivated individual willing to take the initiative to continuously improve practices and systems
  • Experience with contracts/agreements.
  • SAP experience or ability to learn purchasing systems
  • Purchasing, engineering, quality or manufacturing, warranty background
  • Knowledge of materials management
  • CQI-14 Automotive Warranty Management experience
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office
  • Project management and time management skills

Responsibilities

  • Defines cost recovery strategy, obtains cross functional alignment with key stakeholders, and leads execution
  • Functions as liaison with Suppliers to drive a firm GM position on supplier responsibility for warranty, to facilitate cost recovery settlement from suppliers
  • Leads cross functional activities with Engineering and QRD teams and engages Purchasing where commercial engagement and discussion is required
  • Help remove roadblocks and escalate as needed
  • Own cost-recovery strategy tied to Field Action Governance (campaign/recall/special coverage): Aligning on scope and cost elements
  • Communicates status of cost recovery results
  • Interact with leadership including: advising, updating, and communicating status on key items, achievements, and issues.
  • Build and maintain relationships internally and externally
  • Exhibit a strategic, forward-thinking mindset
  • Anticipate risk and opportunities throughout the process
  • Communicate clearly through standalone presentations, leadership reviews, team meetings and 1:1 discussions with senior leaders
