About The Position

The Lead Victim Advocate position at the Latina Resource Center Program (LRC) involves providing comprehensive support and advocacy to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. This role includes coordinating training, facilitating meetings, managing client cases, and providing crisis intervention. The advocate will also be responsible for new staff training, maintaining client confidentiality, and developing community linkages to ensure victims receive necessary social, economic, vocational, psychological, legal, and medical resources. Travel and on-call duties are required.

Requirements

Associate’s degree in criminal justice, Human Services or related field and 2 years’ experience in victim advocacy or any combination of equivalent education and work experience will be considered.
At least two years of experience providing direct services to victims impacted by domestic violence and/or sexual assault.
Bilingual in Spanish/English required; verbal and written.
Able to demonstrate case management techniques; effectively utilizing a complex service delivery system; ability in monitoring participant progress and issuing necessary reports.
Demonstrated experience developing community support and linkages.
Knowledge of legal systems, state benefits and services for victims of crime and emergency social services resources for victims of crime.
Ability and willingness to travel and work non-standard and evening hours.
Must have reliable transportation, the ability to drive and adequate car insurance and able to travel and work irregular hours.
Employment with UMOS is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check and driver’s license record check prior to employment.

Responsibilities

Identify and coordinate training to enhance the delivery of services for victims.
Develop and facilitate monthly advocate meetings for the purpose of enhancing collaboration and positive morale within advocates.
Coordinate monthly client case reviews and provide support to the sexual assault and domestic violence advocates.
Be assigned on-call shifts bi-weekly or as business needs require, responding to after-hours crisis calls, providing timely support, advocacy, and referrals to victims in crisis.
Be the point of contact for training new and current staff with entering all necessary participant information into the victim database system.
Provide crisis intervention, conduct safety planning, and assist victims in securing resources to increase safety.
Coordinate and collaborate on the delivery of services to avoid duplication of pre-existing plans/services for participants and other community programs.
Maintain and utilize client’s confidential information to assist individuals in the referral and placement process.
Review crime reports and initiate victim contact via telephone or home visit to begin the advocacy process with victims.
Provide assistance to victims to arrange referrals for social, economic, vocational, psychological, legal and medical needs.
Accompany and/or transport clients to court, shelter, and/or other community services on a need basis.
Assist victims reporting incidents of violence to local law enforcement, district attorney’s office and/or other agencies such as probation and parole.
Participate in the civil and criminal trial aspects of the crime victim and provides education, support and intervention during trial exposure times.
Develop and maintain a case management process, which ensures that all program requirements are documented and maintained in the required manner.
Coordinate linkages to outside and internal resources to address barriers to move families to safety and self-sufficiency.
Continuously monitor participant’s progress throughout the duration of the program.
Develop and maintain working relationships with inter agency staff and other community agencies to enhance services to immigrant and refugee victims of domestic violence.
Attend meeting conferences and workshops as assigned.
Travel is required.
Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
