About The Position

Diagnose mold problems, propose repairs, and perform repairs independently. Fabricate parts, fixtures, etc. This role actively promotes and drives a culture of safety. The technician will disassemble and reassemble all molds as needed for change-over, repair, and cleaning, diagnosing problems and proposing repair solutions. They will assess the scope of repairs to ensure necessary tools, parts, and outside work are available to meet completion dates, and perform agreed-upon repairs using all necessary tools and machines. The role involves updating the mold history file, using a yellow toolroom job ticket card to log mold information and time spent, setting up complex machines for secondary operations, fabricating spare mold parts, jigs, fixtures, and gauges, operating all Tool Room machines, and performing emergency repairs to molds while they are in the press.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble and reassemble all molds as needed for change-over, repair and cleaning; check mold history file for disassembly notes before beginning.
  • Diagnose problems with the mold and propose repair solutions.
  • Assess scope of repairs to ensure that any special tools, parts, outside work, etc. will be available to meet completion date.
  • Perform agreed upon repairs using all tools and machines necessary.
  • Update mold history file when repair work is performed on the mold cavity.
  • Use yellow toolroom job ticket card to log the mold, shop order and time spent performing the job.
  • Set up complex machines needed for secondary operations at the press.
  • Fabricate spare mold parts, jigs, fixtures and gauges.
  • Set up and operate all Tool Room machines as job dictates.
  • Perform emergency repairs to the mold while it’s in the press.
