About The Position

Supports management in the installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance of overhead and ground-support rigging systems at Universal Horror Unleashed. Provides work direction to Team Members to support safe rigging operations, including daily task assignments, new rigging installations and strikes, inspections, and related administrative duties. Reinforces company and venue-specific policies, including fall protection, rigging safety, load-bearing standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. Maintains working knowledge of rigging systems, hardware inspection standards, load calculations, and industry best practices, while addressing operational concerns and escalating critical issues to Technical & Show leadership as needed.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in theatrical, entertainment, or industrial rigging, including overhead rigging, ground-support structures, and motorized hoist systems.
  • Working knowledge of rigging hardware inspection criteria, wire rope and synthetic sling retirement standards, safe working load, and working load limit principles.
  • Familiarity with fall protection systems, including harness inspection, anchorage point assessment, and self-retracting lifeline use.
  • Must be able to obtain a work card upon employment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while providing work direction to Team Members.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to coordinate with leadership, Team Members, and partner departments.
  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
  • 3+ years of rigging experience in the installation and maintenance of entertainment or theatrical rigging systems with 1 year of providing work direction is required.
  • OSHA 10 certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Technical degree in Theatrical Production, Entertainment Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience within the professional entertainment or themed entertainment industry is preferred.
  • ETCP Certified Rigger — Theatre or Arena discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, assigns, and directs daily rigging tasks for Technical & Show Team Members.
  • Communicates performance expectations, provides feedback for recognition and performance improvement, and supports proper completion of assigned work.
  • Completes required reporting and task management through Maximo and other applicable systems to support communication between shifts, Technical Management, and Technical Coordinators.
  • Reinforces company safety guidelines, OSHA standards, applicable state regulations, and UHU operating procedures, including fall protection, rigging safety, and load-bearing requirements.
  • Leads rigging work startup and stoppage processes and monitors Team Member productivity, safety, and cross-departmental coordination.
  • Oversees the care, condition, use, inventory, and storage of rigging hardware, soft goods, and lifting equipment.
  • Ensures proper completion of work orders and documentation within Maximo.
  • Troubleshoots rigging-related issues and supports approved rigging changes for daily operations, seasonal offerings, and special events in accordance with approved design and engineered load specifications.
  • Conducts routine inspections of wire rope, chain hoists, shackles, turnbuckles, beam clamps, and soft goods rigging in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and applicable ANSI/ESTA standards.
  • Documents Team Member observations using the Lead Observation Report.
  • Communicates and coordinates rigging system status, schedules, resource needs, work plans, and operational concerns with Technical & Show leadership, other UHU departments, and affected Team Members.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact between the rigging team and appropriate leadership.
  • Supports on-the-job training for new Team Members and provides refresher training to existing Team Members. Training areas may include rigging hardware inspection, fall protection systems, load calculation principles, equipment use, and applicable OSHA and venue safety standards.
  • Completes required training documentation and assists with assigning training shifts as needed.
  • Maintains working knowledge of overhead and ground-support rigging systems, motorized chain hoist operation and control, wire rope and synthetic sling inspection and retirement criteria, knot and hitching techniques, and applicable industry standards, including ANSI E1.6 and ETCP guidelines.
  • Performs Technician-level duties as operationally necessary, completes company-required training, and maintains any required licenses or renewals.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
