About The Position

Join us as a Lead Technician in Quality Control. At our Schenectady, NY location, we blend vitamins and nutrients for customers and operate as a Food manufacturing site. Your role is to analyze and / or test under GMP raw materials, intermediates and finished products applying validated or compendia methods. You will also perform/applies knowledge and skills to diverse and complex reactions. Another part will be to release testing products according to current compendia, regulatory and corporate quality systems and principles. The dsm-firmenich Health, Nutrition and Care (HNC) Business Unit in the North America Region has three premix manufacturing sites. Schenectady is the largest site and is a focal point for the business performance in the region and globally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Scientific discipline preferred; Associate Degree + 2 years of relevant experience may be considered.
  • Broad / General knowledge of quality control techniques and methods.
  • Broad understanding of safety, laboratory hygiene and GMP rules.
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in a lab of the Life Science Industry utilizing various instrumentation. (ICP is preferred as well as HPLC, IR, etc.)
  • Experience in Microsoft Office. (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
  • Ability to perform and troubleshoot all lab specific analytical methods.
  • Complete analysis on raw materials and finished products within an agreed upon turnaround time.
  • Ensures SOP’s (LOP's and TM's) and specifications are up to date and in compliance with current Compendia and updates them if required.
  • Performs and documents all work in adherence with cGMP guidelines.
  • Ability to work autonomously according to SOP’s and Specification sheets.

Nice To Haves

  • Lead Technician Quality Control experience in a regulated, ISO, lab certified or manufacturing environment (Dietary supplements, infant formula, 3rd party testing etc.)
  • Experience with lab investigations including root cause and ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma)
  • LIMS platform experience
  • SAP experience

Responsibilities

  • Autonomous accomplishment of analysis in the laboratory.
  • Prepares standards, mobile phases, and reagents.
  • Maintains, calibrates, validates, monitors and troubleshoots laboratory equipment (ICP preferred, HPLC, IR, etc.).
  • Analyzes raw materials, intermediates, stability samples and finished products for required tests by various analytical and instrumental methods.
  • Performs calculations, collects and prepares data for evaluation.
  • Reviews data to ensure accuracy prior to reporting.
  • Orients and trains new colleagues.
  • Perform administrative lab tasks, such as updating Specification sheets and SOP’s. (LOP's and TM's)
  • Keeps supervisor informed of work status and suggests follow-up action to resolve atypical results and any problems encountered.
  • Investigation of OOS/NI and supports other Laboratory team members with investigations.
  • A team leader within a lab unit / Enforcement of GMP and safety rules / validation of results.
  • Maintains and trains in good documentation practices.
