About The Position

This position supervises associates by assigning duties, communicating goals, providing feedback and follow-up, and monitoring performance. The Lead Technician teaches and supports company policies and procedures and ensures compliance. They participate in the hiring, promotion, coaching, teaching, job shadowing, technician certification, and evaluation of associates. This role maintains quality and safety standards in the assigned area of responsibility by ensuring equipment, tools, and supplies are in proper working order and readily available. The Lead Technician ensures associates are trained on Logistics and company policies and procedures and monitors compliance. They distribute and maintain procedures and supporting documentation, and assign and support work activities to ensure compliance with external rules and regulations (e.g., OSHA, Hazardous Waste, NFPA, Storm Water, DOT). This role serves as an expert in landscape management, managing assigned areas using horticulture methods and solutions, and maintaining garden beds, containers, and landscape plants. Technology is leveraged to complete work orders and maintain records, logs, and documentation. Landscaping tasks such as cutting grass, weed management, and raking leaves are performed, along with applying planting and pruning techniques. Pest and disease issues are identified and resolved through chemical applications. Heavy machinery is used. The Lead Technician troubleshoots and provides customer service by communicating with facility users, resolving customer problems and complaints, and ensuring work environments are maintained according to Walmart policies and procedures. Seasonal exterior maintenance activities, including snow and ice management, are performed by operating snow removal equipment, applying de-icing materials, clearing walkways, drives, and exterior areas, and supporting winter preparedness and response activities. Future replacement needs (e.g., mulch, rocks, trees, shrubs, sod replacement) are evaluated, and upgrades are implemented to convert the facility into a sustainable unit. Potential improvements to lower operating costs are explored, and coordination with Home Office support is done to standardize equipment and reduce on-hand stock. Tool and equipment purchases for repairs are sourced, and completed work is ensured to meet quality and safety requirements. Budgets are prepared and executed by developing cost estimates on requested and planned projects, and purchases of parts, materials, equipment, and supplies are approved. Technical assistance and consultation are provided to facilitate purchases, and purchase receipts and acceptance are verified. Vehicles are maintained in good working mechanical and cleanliness condition, and coordinated for required maintenance, ensuring alternate driving support is arranged. Motor vehicles are operated safely, and it's ensured they have all required documents. Fuel and water levels, brake condition, signals, and lights are checked, and maintenance invoices are submitted for payment. Vehicle insurance coverage and validity are verified. Company uniform and badge are worn according to company policies and procedures. Heavy machinery and powered equipment are operated, inspected, and maneuvered in accordance with training, certification requirements, and safety procedures. Pre-operation safety checks and post-operation inspections are performed to ensure equipment is safe, functional, and compliant. Unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or potential hazards are identified and corrected or escalated. When not in use, vehicles are properly locked, keys are stored per protocol, and vehicles are available for inspection or reassignment. Assigned work vehicles are parked at the designated Walmart parking location(s). The role leads and participates in teams by using and sharing resources, information, and tools; determining customer needs and business priorities; coordinating and executing work assignments; providing advice, feedback, and support to ensure timelines and work quality are achieved; and modeling and helping others adapt to change or new challenges. Requirements

  • Ability to to successfully complete a DOT physical and secure medical certification during pre-hire contingency and ability to maintain a minimum of a 90 day Medical Examiner’s Certification (MEC) card.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and able to pass a motor vehicle report.
  • No convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI, or reckless driving involving alcohol or drugs within the last three (3) years.
  • No more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years, if driving a commercial motor vehicle.
  • No serious traffic violations (as defined by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) in the 3 years, if operating a commercial motor vehicle.
  • No preventable accidents (as defined by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) in the last 3 years, if operating a commercial motor vehicle
  • As required by section 391.11(b)(2) of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, ability to read and speak in the English language.
  • 2 years’ experience in the landscaping/gardening industry.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in horticulture or related area.
  • Certified nursery and/or landscape professional.
  • Experience as landscaping/gardening crew leader or supervisor.
  • Experience using intermediate level functionality of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
