About The Position

This position supervises associates by assigning duties, communicating goals, providing feedback and follow-up, and monitoring performance. It involves teaching and supporting company policies and procedures and ensuring compliance. The role participates in the hiring, promotion, coaching, teaching, job shadowing, technician certification, and evaluation of associates. The Lead Technician maintains quality and safety standards in assigned areas by ensuring equipment, tools, and supplies are in proper working order and readily available. They ensure associates are trained on company policies and procedures and monitor compliance, distributing and maintaining procedures and supporting documentation. This role assigns and supports work activities to ensure compliance with external rules and regulations (e.g., OSHA, Hazardous Waste, NFPA, Storm Water, DOT). The Lead Technician serves as an expert in landscape management, managing assigned areas using horticulture methods, maintaining garden beds, containers, and landscape plants. They leverage technology to complete work orders and maintain records, logs, and documentation. The role performs landscaping tasks such as cutting grass, weed management, raking leaves, and applying planting and pruning techniques. It involves identifying and resolving pest and disease issues through chemical applications and using heavy machinery. The Lead Technician troubleshoots and provides customer service by communicating with facility users, resolving customer problems and complaints, and ensuring work environments are maintained according to Walmart policies and procedures. They perform seasonal exterior maintenance activities, including snow and ice management, by operating snow removal equipment, applying de-icing materials, clearing walkways, drives, and exterior areas, and supporting winter preparedness and response activities. The role evaluates current and future replacement needs (e.g., mulch, rocks, trees, shrubs, sod replacement) and implements upgrades to convert the facility into a sustainable unit, exploring potential improvements to lower operating costs. They coordinate with Home Office support to standardize equipment and reduce on-hand stock, and source tool and equipment purchases to perform repairs. The Lead Technician ensures completed work meets quality and safety requirements. They prepare and execute budgets by developing cost estimates on requested and planned projects, approving purchases of parts, materials, equipment, and supplies, and providing technical assistance and consultation to facilitate purchases. They verify purchase receipt and acceptance. The role maintains vehicles in working mechanical and cleanliness condition, coordinates and takes vehicles for required maintenance, and ensures alternate driving support is arranged. They safely operate motor vehicles and ensure vehicles have all required documents, checking fuel and water levels, brake condition, signals, and lights, and submitting maintenance invoices for payment. The Lead Technician verifies the coverage and validity of vehicle insurance, wears company uniform and badge according to company policies, and operates, inspects, and maneuvers heavy machinery and powered equipment in accordance with training, certification requirements, and safety procedures. They perform pre-operation safety checks and post-operation inspections, identify unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions, and take appropriate corrective action or escalate as required. When not in use, vehicles are properly locked, keys are stored per protocol, and vehicles are available for inspection or reassignment. All assigned work vehicles are parked at the designated Walmart parking location(s). The Lead Technician leads and participates in teams by using and sharing resources, information, and tools; determining customer needs and business priorities; coordinating and executing work assignments; providing advice, feedback, and support to ensure timelines and work quality are achieved; and modeling and helping others adapt to change or new challenges. Requirements

  • Ability to to successfully complete a DOT physical and secure medical certification during pre-hire contingency and ability to maintain a minimum of a 90 day Medical Examiner’s Certification (MEC) card.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and able to pass a motor vehicle report.
  • No convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI, or reckless driving involving alcohol or drugs within the last three (3) years.
  • No more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years, if driving a commercial motor vehicle.
  • No serious traffic violations (as defined by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) in the 3 years, if operating a commercial motor vehicle.
  • No preventable accidents (as defined by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) in the last 3 years, if operating a commercial motor vehicle.
  • As required by section 391.11(b)(2) of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, ability to read and speak in the English language.
  • 2 years’ experience in the landscaping/gardening industry.

Nice To Haves
