About The Position

The Lead Technical Writer works as a project support individual and is responsible for providing support to, and collaborating with, Engineering and other teams to produce new and revise existing technical specifications, reports, manuals, presentations, procedures, and other documents in support of new commercial nuclear reactor projects for GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH). This includes technical document reviews for formatting and adherence to document standards. This individual may assist in all areas of document management, including Procedure Writing, Requirements Management, Design Control, Document and Records Management, and Issue and Change Management. The role involves providing technical writing support and updates for assigned documentation, leading and supporting the creation and updates to procedures, work instructions, and other supporting documentation. It ensures project deliverables are executed on time, with high quality, and within budget. The writer will work with industry and customer standards to develop quality and user-friendly formats and templates for future publications, and edit and manage technical, procedural, and process documentation to be complete, accurate, and timely. Collaboration with subject matter experts is key for documentation creation and implementation. The individual will become familiar with applicable products, services, concepts, practices, requirements, and procedures, and will prioritize, organize, and complete multiple activities, meeting established deadlines. This includes collecting, analyzing, and compiling information from various resources for document creation or editing, and managing the review and approval process, including comment resolution. The role also involves developing documents that are organized, succinct, compliant, and meet internal and external deadlines, and editing for consistency, clarity, grammar, syntax, format, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. Additional duties include creating, managing, and maintaining websites, libraries, storage repositories, workflows, newsletters, processing engineering changes, updating project schedules, performing requirements traceability and publishing, supporting input into PLM and Nuclear Collaboration System, performing records management, and providing training and on-site support for sensitive documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in technical writing for a regulated business, quality assurance, engineering, or computer technology, or other comparable environment
  • The work location for this role is at the GVH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

  • Familiarity with US NRC Regulatory Guides
  • Familiarity with system and software standards (ASME, IEEE, IEC, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Documentum, Confluence, and SharePoint
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using computer applications
  • Experience in word processing, presentation packages, databases, and spreadsheet packages
  • Proficient with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical writing support to, and updates for, new and existing assigned documentation.
  • Lead and support creation of and updates to procedures, work instructions, and other supporting documentation.

  • Perform records management functions and records maintenance activities, as assigned.
  • Perform training to other staff members on writing fundamentals, as assigned.
  • Provide on-site technical writing support for sensitive or security-related documentation, as needed.
