About The Position

Universal Health Services (UHS) is a leading hospital and healthcare services provider. Southeast Behavioral Hospital, a subsidiary of UHS, is opening a full continuum of inpatient and outpatient services for mental, emotional, and behavioral health issues in Southeast Missouri. The hospital offers a wide range of services for children, teens, adults, and seniors, addressing issues such as depression, anxiety, and co-occurring substance use disorders. The Lead Mental Health Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring patient safety and facilitating continuous, safe patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling. This position also involves primary training, preceptorship, and mentorship of Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) under the guidance of the Nurse Educator.

Requirements

High School Degree or equivalent.
Three (3) years of related experience.
Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques.
Understanding of mental illness.
At least one year of experience coaching and developing other staff members in psychiatric patient care techniques or at least one year of experience performing similar duties at the facility.
Successful completion of approved Basic Life Support and approved Crisis Prevention & Behavioral Management training.
May be required to work overtime and flexible hours.

Nice To Haves

Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
Knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.

Responsibilities

Ensure patient safety.
Assist CNO with planning and oversight of the MHT patient care role.
Facilitate the provision of continuous and safe patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.
Provide primary training, preceptorship, and mentorship of MHTs throughout the facility.
Obtain/maintain certification as an instructor/facilitator for Verbal De-escalation, Aggression Management, CPR/BLS or other additional duties, above and beyond the MHT requirements.
