The Lead Teaching Assistant position offers opportunities for professional advancement, growth, and leadership to qualified Teaching Assistants. This role involves supporting new unit members and those working with the district's student population. Lead Teaching Assistants continue to accrue seniority and have the right to return to their previous position after a two-year tenure. As a model for Teacher Assistant skills, Lead Teaching Assistants may provide instructional support services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher. They may demonstrate direct instructional support to students in developing social, communication, and academic skills. Additionally, Lead Teaching Assistants may train new Teaching Assistants/Paraprofessionals in devising and implementing motivational and behavior management systems, and assist in intervention strategies to support student development and growth.
