About The Position

The Lead Teacher at the University School for Young Children, part of the College of Education Health & Human Studies, is a full-time position responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate educational program for young children aged birth to six years. This role involves assessing children's learning, planning curriculum based on individual and group needs, and working collaboratively with families in a culturally sensitive manner to foster an inclusive program. The Lead Teacher must ensure compliance with Missouri state licensing and NAEYC accreditation requirements, document children's learning through portfolios and displays, and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, Elementary or Early Childhood Special Education OR Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education OR Bachelor’s degree in another field with 36 or more higher education credits in early childhood education, elementary education, special education, or child development
  • Experience teaching children aged 6 weeks to 6 years
  • Experience implementing NAEYC developmentally appropriate practices
  • Knowledge of techniques used to assess children’s development including developing portfolios
  • Knowledge of Missouri and NAEYC program accreditation
  • Familiarity with current trends in early childhood education including Creative Curriculum, Reggio Emilia, the Project Approach, and emergent curriculum
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with young children and families, university students, faculty, staff and public
  • Ability to meet the physical needs of the children including: lifting, holding, feeding, and diapering
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stoop, bend, stretch, reach, kneel, sit on the floor, and be physically active
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
