About The Position

The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate programming for their assigned classroom. This role involves monitoring each child's development, planning programming to maximize skill development, and communicating regularly with families to share information about the child's progress. The Lead Teacher also collaborates with supervisors and co-workers to ensure efficient service delivery.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or 12 credit hours in Early Childhood Education with a plan to continue further education.
  • Foundations in Health and Safety Certificate, or willingness to complete within the first week of hire.
  • At least 1 year of program experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of early childhood developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Working knowledge of the regulatory environment.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and Medical Administration Training (MAT) certifications, or willingness to complete within the first year of employment.
  • Physically and mentally able to provide daily routine care of children.
  • Able to properly supervise children by sight and sound.
  • Able to react quickly when safety concerns arise in an emergency situation.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, staff, and supervisors.
  • Flexibility for varied assignments.
  • Positive attitude and ability to integrate into a team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide competent supervision and daily care to all children in the assigned classroom.
  • Use appropriate language and tone when talking with children, promoting self-esteem and self-help skills.
  • Show warmth and affection for all children.
  • Promote the daily exchange of information about children’s activities and progress with families.
  • Accommodate family instructions for daily care routines and follow developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Hold bi-annual parent-teacher conferences and be available for additional conferences as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality when discussing child-related issues.
  • Communicate with potential families during tours, providing information specific to their classroom.
  • Develop and maintain a cooperative team approach with staff.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and yearly program evaluations.
  • Offer leadership to assistant teachers and other co-workers.
  • Participate in workshops and trainings according to regulations (30 hours annually) and pursue additional professional development.
  • Stay current with company policies, regulatory guidelines, and other pertinent regulations.
  • Engage in daily, in-person contact with families, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Complete written correspondence to monitor development, record accidents, illnesses, medication administration, and other pertinent information.
