About The Position

BAE Systems Space & Mission Systems is seeking an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to provide element-level systems engineering leadership for advanced technology development. The role owns the program’s technical requirements baseline and guides multidisciplinary teams through requirements definition, architecture development, design, integration, verification, validation, delivery, and operations of space-based missions and associated ground and launch systems. The engineer coordinates with customers, the Program Management Office, the Chief Systems Engineer, the Chief Engineer, other engineering disciplines, suppliers, and partners to align stakeholder needs, system architecture, subsystem performance, and program constraints. The position leads and mentors Systems Engineers, helps manage team staffing assignments, supports risk and opportunity processes, and owns system-level technical budgets, trade studies, technical baseline impacts, and major technical gate reviews. It uses Model-Based Systems Engineering for architecture, requirements traceability, and interface development, and coordinates requirements and interface verification with integration and test activities. Work is performed on-site five days during each normally scheduled week at the primary work location. Travel and local commuting between company campuses and other locations may be required. Work may take place in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors, or a remote research environment. Occasional work in production areas may require protective equipment, and access to other facilities may involve varying weather conditions.

  • Demonstrated experience with systems engineering processes, including requirements development and allocation, change management, verification, and validation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams and meeting schedule and performance goals.
  • Extensive knowledge of missions and customers across core technology areas, including experience with the critical customer base and established relationships with key customer-community personnel.
  • Strong presentation skills and experience presenting to senior decision-making and technical audiences.
  • Ability to work on-site five days during each normally scheduled week.
