About The Position

The Lead Systems Engineer will evaluate and improve the reliability of Department of Defense communications systems, including wideband, narrowband, and/or SATCOM systems. The role primarily leads development, support, and management of the Failure Reporting, Analysis & Corrective Action System (FRACAS) process for specific communications products, identifying failure trends in a complex, low-volume electronic environment and working to improve product reliability. The engineer conducts failure investigations and root-cause analyses, determines corrective actions, and recommends design improvements. The position works across engineering, manufacturing, programs, material control, and quality teams; supports multiple concurrent programs; and maintains FRACAS records and reporting for management and customers. The role also reviews troubleshooting procedures, performs equipment testing and troubleshooting, and presents technical data to management and customer reviews. The position requires the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.

Requirements

  • ABET (EAC/CAC)-accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is strongly preferred, with a minimum of 9 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Alternatively, a graduate degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience, or 13 years of prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance.
  • Ability to manage and complete projects within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Ability to productively contribute work, ideas, and collaboration as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience supporting a FRACAS program.
  • Familiarity with FRACAS software or databases and working knowledge of reliability analysis and Failure Mode / Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Understanding of engineering architecture and design concepts, and basic engineering practices and procedures.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex electronic systems, including data link and mechanical systems.
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual presentation and communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to meet critical deadlines.
  • Understanding of project coordination and coordination of technical support personnel.
  • Strong background in data mining using Business Objects and SQL.
  • Experience performing reliability- and FRACAS-specific analysis and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform FRACAS, root-cause analysis, investigations, and recommend design improvements based on analysis.
  • Direct investigations and determine root causes of design, production, and reported field failures involving communications systems and components.
  • Make recommendations to the Failure Review Board (FRB).
  • Determine resolutions to communications-system failures and corrective actions in support of the FRACAS program.
  • Coordinate efforts and issue resolution with Engineering, Manufacturing, Programs, Material Control, and Quality departments.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary engineering development environment and manage time and resources across multiple concurrent programs.
  • Review fault-isolation and troubleshooting procedures for communications systems.
  • Perform functional testing and troubleshooting of equipment and systems in assigned areas.
  • Maintain the FRACAS database, monitor status, track open investigations, and generate reports for management and customers.
  • Develop, deliver, and present technical data to management and customer reviews.
