About The Position

Eaton’s IS AER MSD division is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to support research and new product development. The role is responsible for requirements management, system architecture development, and support for system integration and test. The engineer provides technical oversight and guidance to systems engineers in the United States and global teams while also contributing as an individual contributor. Products include thermal fluid and dynamic mechanical systems for aerospace applications such as space life support and propulsion, aircraft oxygen and refueling, and weapons storage and release systems. The successful candidate will proactively learn the technical domain of assigned systems, identify where systems engineering can provide value, and tailor systems engineering practices to program scope and need. As a member and partner of the product team, the Lead Systems Engineer develops systems engineering work products and provides technical guidance for incorporating systems engineering methodologies. Technical leadership, project execution, and team collaboration are important to the position. This is a remote position, with a hybrid requirement for candidates located within 50 miles of Davenport, Iowa. The expected annual salary range is $97,000–$143,000, and the role is eligible for a variable incentive program. U.S. citizenship is required under applicable federal contract requirements. The position involves information or hardware subject to ITAR; applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by ITAR.

  • At least five years of experience as a systems engineer in the aerospace industry.
  • At least one year of experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering using SysML.
  • Experience as a leader on an engineering product team creating and delivering systems engineering work products.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance systems engineering discipline with product team needs.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for consideration pursuant to applicable U.S. federal government contract requirements.
  • Applicants must be U.S. persons under ITAR; the posting defines a U.S. person as a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, political asylee, or refugee. The posting also separately states that U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Demonstrated competencies in requirements management, system architecture modeling, CAMEO and DOORS, system integration and collaboration, and product life-cycle development using the Systems V Model.
  • Demonstrated communication skills in cross-functional technical collaboration, articulating the quantitative value of systems engineering, and encouraging mentoring and learning.

  • Membership in a professional society related to the discipline, such as INCOSE.
  • Working knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) principles.
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Green Belt awareness and training.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer requirements documents for bid and proposal efforts, identify risks and updates, develop systems engineering estimates tailored to scope and need, and collaborate with the product team.
  • Write, allocate, and trace requirements; develop system and subsystem specifications; and create and manage verification matrices.
  • Collaborate with the product team to define system architecture, including physical, functional, and behavioral models; use Model-Based Systems Engineering when appropriate; and identify system and subsystem interfaces.
  • Support integration and test by aligning modeling and simulation analysis with test plans, identifying technical integration risks and mitigations, and ensuring coverage of requirements and system architecture.
  • Contribute to Eaton Aerospace process development, including defining standard work documents, developing a process to identify the level of systems engineering required for programs, and developing metrics to measure process implementation.
  • Provide systems engineering technical leadership within assigned programs.
  • Mentor less-experienced systems engineers and contribute to skills assessments and training plans.
  • Tailor systems engineering implementation plans to program scope, risk, and value.
  • Recommend appropriate systems engineering methods and work products in collaboration with program leadership and senior technical authorities.
