About The Position

L3Harris’s Missile Solutions segment designs, manufactures, and deploys advanced propulsion and energetics systems, including rocket motors. The position focuses on specifying requirements for propulsion systems and requires a background in systems engineering and an understanding of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). The role calls for meticulous attention to detail and project management under moderate supervision. The Systems Engineer develops and coordinates requirements, verification plans, compliance assessments, and certification activities for rocket propulsion product development using model-based systems engineering tools. The role also supports functional analysis, system trade studies, risk and opportunity management, and communication with project teams and organizational representatives. The job is located in West Palm Beach, Florida, follows a 9/80 schedule (80 hours over nine workdays in each 14-day period, with every other Friday off), and includes 10% travel.

Requirements

  • A degree and at least 8 years of prior systems engineering experience; alternatively, a graduate degree or equivalent and at least 6 years of prior systems engineering experience; or, in lieu of a degree, at least 13 years of prior systems engineering experience.
  • At least 4 years of relevant industry experience in systems engineering.
  • Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance required to start.
  • Background in systems engineering and understanding of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to manage projects under moderate supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Systems engineering experience in the aerospace or defense sectors is preferred.
  • Experience in requirements management, risk management, and product development cycle disciplines is strongly desired.
  • Experience with liquid rocket propulsion is strongly desired.
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with IBM DOORS, Cameo, and Model-Based Systems Engineering methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop systems, subsystem, and component requirements for rocket propulsion product development, including requirement derivation, allocation, and documentation in databases and specifications.
  • Coordinate requirements and specification change management with integrated product team members.
  • Define and coordinate requirements verification plans; plan and manage compliance assessment and certification.
  • Use model-based systems engineering tools to perform requirements-related activities.
  • Perform functional analysis and coordinate system trade studies.
  • Coordinate selection of optimized concept baselines through benefit/cost trades to support system architecture and objectives.
  • Coordinate project risk and opportunity assessment and management; prepare and report mitigation plans.
  • May direct, coordinate, and review the work of a small staff of engineers and/or technicians; estimate personnel needs, schedule work, and assign tasks to meet completion dates.
