About The Position

The Lead Stevedore supports the Stevedore Superintendent and performs supervisory duties when the supervisor is not available or absent. Must be able to perform all team duties for coverage and supervisory purposes. The position is responsible for practicing safe work habits and for maintaining a clean and safe work place environment.

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Distributes the cargo plan, prior to the start of vessel operations.
Ensures gang work is performed according to company approved procedures, standards and specifications.
Leads gang members during vessel operations, making sure they are aware of their positions and assigned duties.
Works with machine operators in the routing of containers.
Is in constant communication with top loaders and crane operators regarding bays that will be discharged and loaded and any changes in the cargo plans.
Makes sure team members are wearing proper PPE, at all times.
Performs inspections of rigging gear prior to any rigging activity.
Completes a safety risk assessment prior to all work performed.
Works with management to schedule, prioritize, and control workload.
Communicates professionally with team members, supervisors, and manager.
Actively participates in safety and educational training as required.
Performs any other management requests or directives as needed.
