About The Position

Under the general direction of the Emergency Department Manager, an experienced Emergency Department nurse coordinates resources and daily activities related to the effective and efficient operation of the emergency department. Serves as a clinical resource to others and offers innovative solutions to help the department.

Requirements

  • Certificate of completion from college or vocational school from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing. The nurse shall have completed a nursing education education program that included clinical experiences with actual patients under the supervision of qualified faculty.
  • 1-2 years relevant experience
  • California Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Nevada Registered Nurse (RN)
  • BLS/ACLS/PALS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS certification).
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Leadership ability
  • Ability to communicate well with others
  • Previous Emergency Department experience
  • Prior work as a Charge Nurse
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR)/EPIC experience

  • Prior experience in coordinating staff schedules and daily assignments
  • Prior involvement in performance improvement projects

Responsibilities

  • Performs all aspects in the job description of Emergency Department Staff Nurse.
  • Oversees daily clinical operations, ensuring the delivery of the highest levels of clinical quality and customer service to patients in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Maintains workflow by monitoring staff schedule and departmental flow.
  • Communicates throughout the day with physicians and staff to ensure optimal coordination in the delivery of medical services.
  • Collaborates on departmental communications and information sharing.
  • Works closely with staff during their shift and gives input and feedback to the department manager.
  • Coordinates departmental stocking, audits, and outdates.
  • Ensures the department is stocked, clean and ready to see patients.
  • Requests and follows up on repairs needed in the department through Biomed, Facilities and IT.
  • Possesses effective communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Utilizes equipment properly.
  • Participates in departmental growth and quality improvement programs.
  • Assists ED Manager with training.
  • Ensures adequate daily staffing.
  • Implements operational changes as directed by the ED Manager.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance and survey readiness.
  • Coordinates ordering of medical supplies.
  • Participates in data collection and department quality improvement programs.
  • Participates in updating policies and procedures to accurately reflect department workflow.
  • Acts as a resource and serves as a mentor for other nurses.
  • Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
  • Complies with System policies and procedures.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
