About The Position

Slide Insurance is seeking a Lead Staff Counsel to lead and mentor a team of Staff Counsel, providing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback. This role involves partnering with Claims leadership to align litigation strategy, case evaluation, and settlement practices, and serving as the primary escalation point for complex and high-exposure matters. The Lead Staff Counsel will also oversee the litigation portfolio, monitor performance, exposure trends, and case progression, and conduct file reviews to provide strategic direction. Collaboration with Trial Counsel and providing timely legal guidance to Claims and business partners are key aspects, along with identifying litigation risks and promoting compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school and active Florida Bar membership in good standing
• 8+ years of litigation experience, including significant insurance litigation
• 5+ years handling Florida first-party property claims
• 2+ years of leadership experience with a proven track record of mentoring and developing attorneys
• Strong knowledge of Florida insurance law, civil procedure, evidence rules, and professional responsibility standards
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex litigation, evaluate risk, negotiate effectively, and guide legal strategy
• Trial experience, including jury trial participation; second-chair trial experience preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with Trial Counsel to ensure matters are appropriately prepared for trial
• Provide timely legal guidance and recommendations to Claims and business partners
• Identify litigation risks and recommend strategies to support favorable outcomes
• Promote compliance with court requirements, ethical obligations, and company litigation standards
