About The Position

This role aligns to industry-level titles such as Psychometrician, Measurement Specialist or Research Scientist. The Lead Specialist, Psychometrician will apply, design solutions for, and mentor others in psychometric methodologies. They will utilize and consult on statistical software packages and programming languages commonly employed in psychometric and measurement research. This role also involves providing thought leadership in educational measurement and assessment, designing research studies, and building strong client relationships.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in educational measurement or a closely related field from a nationally recognized institution of higher education
  • A minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience, preferably encompassing the full range of psychometric issues encountered in operational assessment programs
  • Experience developing linear test forms and designing field test plans.
  • Experience establishing CAT programs, conducting simulations, and evaluating results.
  • Strong oral, written, and business communication skills required to function effectively in a leadership role with internal and external stakeholders and to engage with national measurement experts.
  • Ability to clearly articulate how state and national educational policy and context influence operational assessment work.
  • Ability to effectively tailor technical presentations for diverse audiences, including client groups and technical advisory committees.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and be recognized as a trusted partner.
  • Ability to represent the Psychometrics effectively in cross-functional settings.
  • Ability to serve as the primary point of contact for Psychometrics for multiple testing programs or research initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Applies, designs solutions for, and mentors others in psychometric methodologies—including classical test theory, item response theory, test equating, scaling and linking, and standard setting—across new and complex operational testing contexts.
  • Utilizes and consults on statistical software packages and programming languages commonly employed in psychometric and measurement research (e.g., SAS, R, Python, WINSTEPS, IRTPro) to address novel challenges in operational assessment programs or research initiatives.
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted tools to accelerate workflow exploration, prototyping, innovation, or analytical processes.
  • Provides guidance on, develops, and documents new and existing processes across programs and projects.
  • Scaling and Equating: Possesses working knowledge of common scaling and equating designs sufficient to design approaches, execute and author technical documentation.
  • Test Construction: Experience developing linear test forms and designing field test plans.
  • Computer Adaptive Testing: Experience establishing CAT programs, conducting simulations, and evaluating results.
  • Provides internal and external thought leadership in educational measurement and assessment.
  • Designs research studies and develops detailed research and analysis specifications.
  • Coordinates study resources; prepares study documentation; and authors formal reports for written or oral dissemination.
  • Identifies and interprets the implications of national trends in education for operational assessment programs, research projects, and clients.
  • Proposes sound measurement plans and offers strategic client guidance informed by these trends.
  • Upholds and promotes the principles outlined in the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing.
  • Demonstrates strong oral, written, and business communication skills required to function effectively in a leadership role with internal and external stakeholders and to engage with national measurement experts.
  • Clearly articulates how state and national educational policy and context influence operational assessment work.
