About The Position

L3Harris Communications and Mission Critical Communications is seeking a team-oriented digital signal processing software design engineer to lead a cross-functional team. The role has hands-on responsibility across all phases of software development, from requirements definition through product integration and testing. The work emphasizes waveform design and digital signal processing for digital communications, including high-level and detailed design, simulation, implementation, testing, and documentation. The engineer works with an Agile team on real-time signal-processing solutions and collaborates with hardware, test, manufacturing, product, and program management teams to develop radio communications products. The position is remote, with the listed location options of Rochester, New York, or Sunrise, Florida, and requires approximately 10% travel to a site for training. The work schedule is 9/80: 80 hours over nine workdays in each 14-day period, with every other Friday off. The role requires the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and at least 9 years of relevant experience developing real-time embedded software in C or C++; alternatively, a graduate degree and at least 7 years of related experience, or at least 13 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with digital signal processing, embedded C or C++, and MATLAB.
  • Experience leading collaborative software design, development, and test teams.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

  • Experience across the software development life cycle, including analysis, design, development, testing, software unit testing, and automation tools.
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies, including iterative, time-boxed Scrum processes.
  • Knowledge of Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) or other defined software development processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and debug software and related hardware issues.
  • Experience working in or with FPGA design, development, and test teams.
  • Radio communications or IP networking experience.
  • Experience with small-team leadership, including planning, coaching, tracking performance, and applying course corrections.
  • Experience with DevOps-based software development.
  • Experience in engineering requirements analysis, development, and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Research, design, develop, modify, and evaluate embedded software for communications systems in conjunction with hardware product development.
  • Lead and contribute to assigned portions of the product development cycle within an Agile Scrum framework.
  • Perform requirements analysis, use-case analysis, conceptual design, trade studies, and test, operation, maintenance, and reliability analysis for radio communications products, subsystems, and external systems.
  • Collaborate with test, manufacturing, product, program management, and other teams to define and execute radio product development and deliver high-quality products.
  • Translate customer requirements, including informal requirements, into system solutions that balance technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Consult with electrical engineers and other engineering staff to evaluate hardware/software interfaces and system operational performance requirements.
  • Develop software system testing procedures and design documentation.
  • Communicate technical matters clearly and logically and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Keep current with DSP advancements and apply relevant techniques and methodologies.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of DSP solutions and identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
