About The Position

The Lead Software Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for the technical delivery, quality, and operational health of applications and services within an assigned business or product area. This role combines hands-on full-stack software engineering, application architecture, technical leadership, and deep technical expertise to deliver scalable, secure, reliable solutions primarily within the Microsoft .NET and Azure ecosystem. The role partners closely with Product, Architecture, QA, DevOps, Security, infrastructure teams, and other engineering resources to translate business needs and architectural direction into effective technical solutions and executable delivery plans. The Lead Software Engineer provides technical ownership across design, development, integration, release readiness, production support, and ongoing system improvement while identifying dependencies, risks, and technical tradeoffs early. The Lead Software Engineer typically provides technical leadership for engineers working within the assigned area and may delegate implementation or workstream leadership to qualified Senior Software Engineers. Depending on organizational needs, the role may also supervise a small number of engineers; however, its primary focus remains technical leadership, application delivery, and subject matter expertise rather than broader personnel or organizational management.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on full-stack software development experience with C#, .NET, modern .NET application frameworks, and modern front-end technologies such as React and TypeScript.
  • Demonstrated experience technically leading delivery of complex enterprise applications or services.
  • Strong application architecture and system design skills, including APIs, distributed systems, integration patterns, and event-driven architectures.
  • Production experience developing and operating applications within Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong understanding of cloud application architecture, including compute, data, messaging, identity, networking, security, and observability considerations.
  • Experience with REST APIs, asynchronous messaging, third-party integrations, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented design, software design patterns, automated testing, and maintainable application architecture.
  • Experience with source control, CI/CD, automated build and deployment practices, and platforms such as Git and GitLab.
  • Hands-on experience implementing cloud workload infrastructure and application configuration using infrastructure-as-code, containers, environment configuration, CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices within established enterprise standards and guardrails.
  • Experience implementing application logging, monitoring, metrics, tracing, and production troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of secure software development practices and application security considerations.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, lead technical decisions, and coordinate implementation across multiple contributors.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Minimum seven years progressive software engineering experience, including experience designing and delivering complex enterprise applications and at least three years providing senior-level technical or engineering leadership.
  • Technical leadership, supervisory or leadership mentoring, or work-lead experience is required.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards
  • Ability to accurately interpret sounds and associated meanings at a volume consistent with interpersonal conversation.
  • Office environment – moderate noise, no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  • This role requires effective adaptation to workplace stressors, including customer service complaints, security responsibilities, and competing priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with microservices, Domain-Driven Design, Clean Architecture, and cloudnative application patterns.
  • Experience with Azure-native integration, messaging, container, and managed application services.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform or Bicep.
  • Experience applying automated security scanning, performance testing, and reliability practices within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience using AI-assisted software development tools to improve engineering productivity, testing, and code quality.
  • Strong business-domain knowledge in the area supported by the assigned applications or experience developing software for similarly complex business processes.
  • Experience in financial services, banking, mortgage, or another regulated industry.
  • Microsoft Azure or related technical certifications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; ability to work in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Wiki, collaborative cloud-based programs, and third-party software applications required.
  • Commitment to company values.
  • Prior people experience management experience is preferred for assignments that include direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical delivery of software capabilities within an assigned business or product area from solution design through production implementation and support.
  • Serve as a primary technical subject-matter expert for assigned applications, services, integrations, and related business processes.
  • Translate business requirements and architectural direction into scalable, maintainable technical solutions and executable engineering plans.
  • Coordinate engineering activities, technical dependencies, estimates, risks, and implementation sequencing within the assigned area.
  • Partner with Product and business stakeholders to understand objectives, clarify technical implications, and support realistic delivery expectations.
  • Identify and communicate delivery risks, technical constraints, integration impacts, and tradeoffs to engineering and delivery leadership.
  • Design and implement end-to-end enterprise application solutions using C#, .NET, modern front-end technologies, and Microsoft Azure, including user interfaces, application services, APIs, integrations, data access, application security, cloud workload configuration, deployment automation, and observability.
  • Provide application architecture leadership across APIs, distributed services, integrations, event-driven solutions, data access, and cloud-native application patterns.
  • Ensure solutions meet appropriate standards for scalability, performance, security, reliability, maintainability, and operational support.
  • Remain hands-on through design, development, code reviews, troubleshooting, proof-ofconcepts, and complex implementation work as appropriate.
  • Guide engineers in software design, coding practices, testing strategies, integration patterns, and technical problem solving.
  • Partner with Architecture to align application designs and technical decisions with broader architectural direction and standards.
  • Partner with DevOps, Security, IAM, Networking, and infrastructure teams on CI/CD, cloud environments, deployment architecture, networking, identity, security controls, configuration, and production readiness where implementation requires enterprise standards, shared services, approvals, or specialized access.
  • Apply strong working knowledge of Azure application hosting, integration, data, identity, networking, security, and observability capabilities.
  • Support infrastructure-as-code, automated deployment, environment management, and repeatable release practices.
  • Ensure applications include appropriate automated testing, logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Lead or support resolution of complex production issues and drive corrective actions that improve reliability and reduce recurrence.
  • Identify and reduce technical debt, recurring defects, performance concerns, and operational risks within the assigned area.
  • Mentor Software Engineers and Senior Software Engineers and provide technical guidance across implementation and delivery activities.
  • Lead technical reviews, design discussions, code reviews, and engineering problem solving sessions.
  • Delegate appropriate technical leadership and implementation responsibilities to other senior engineers while maintaining accountability for overall technical delivery within the assigned area.
  • Promote strong engineering practices, technical knowledge sharing, documentation, and continuous improvement.
  • May participate in hiring, onboarding, performance feedback, and professional development activities.
  • May supervise a limited number of engineers as organizational needs require.
