About The Position

This role will contribute to the legacy and smart Metering and Energy Efficient platforms in a multitude of ways, from architecting phenomenal systems, creating, and encouraging great software development practices engineering-wide, driving strategic technical improvements, and mentoring other engineers. The Lead Software Engineer is responsible for working with internal staff and 3rd party vendors to oversee the development, integration, maintenance, patching, and repairing of software and associated infrastructure for maximum efficiency and usability. This role creates or ensures architectural designs and BC/DR plans exist for systems, leads software performance management, and successfully plans and executes projects involving multiple developers and complex requirements, prioritizing strategically. The Lead Software Engineer contributes to major architectural decisions, reads all project-related tech specs, tracks status, and considers implications to other systems. They spur and facilitate meaningful discussion around complex issues, work effectively with key stakeholders to solve problems and make decisions, and are trusted to always share status with all stakeholders and proactively remedy communication issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of related experience.
  • Expert or mastery level knowledge of work area, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • Deep knowledge of architecture and project management.
  • Advanced knowledge of related disciplines within work area and ability to identify links and potential impact on projects, programs or systems.
  • Technical decision making.
  • Leading work that affects one or more complex systems and mission-critical areas.
  • Go-to expert in an area, with an increasingly strategic mindset.
  • Ability to communicate with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organization.
  • Must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

  • Have a broad understanding of Eversource and project architectures and how their domain fits within it.

  • Explore, research and recommend technologies with sizable potential impact for ES.
  • Identify and advocate for foundational work and practice improvements in their domain.
  • Convince others about technical tradeoffs and decisions.

  • Be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
