About The Position

This role will contribute to the legacy and smart Metering and Energy Efficient platforms in a multitude of ways, from architecting phenomenal systems, creating, and encouraging great software development practices engineering-wide, driving strategic technical improvements, and mentoring other engineers. The position is responsible for working with internal staff and 3rd party vendors to oversee the development, integration, maintenance, patching, and repairing of software and associated infrastructure for maximum efficiency and usability. The role involves creating or ensuring architectural designs and BC/DR plans exist for systems, leading software performance management, and successfully planning and executing projects involving multiple developers and complex requirements, prioritizing strategically. The Lead Software Engineer contributes to major architectural decisions, reviews all project-related tech specs, tracks status, and considers implications to other systems. They will spur and facilitate meaningful discussion around complex issues, work effectively with key stakeholders to solve problems and make decisions, and are trusted to always share status with all stakeholders and proactively remedy communication issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of related experience.
  • Expert or mastery level knowledge of work area, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
  • Deep knowledge of architecture and project management.
  • Advanced knowledge of related disciplines within work area and ability to identify links and potential impact on projects, programs or systems.
  • Focused on technical decision making, leading work that affects one or more complex systems and mission-critical areas.
  • Delivers code that sets the standard for quality and maintainability.
  • Writes highly insightful, comprehensive code reviews.
  • Has a broad understanding of Eversource and project architectures and how their domain fits within it.
  • Systematically thinks through potential design impacts on other teams and the company.
  • Go-to expert in an area, with an increasingly strategic mindset.
  • Explores, researches and recommends technologies with sizable potential impact for ES.
