About The Position

The Cisco ThousandEyes Account Management team builds the foundational services that manage customer identities, access, entitlements, and contracts across Cisco ThousandEyes. This role involves setting the technical direction for the Account Management Platform, guiding architecture across secure, scalable microservices, high-throughput APIs, and customer-facing web applications. The engineer will identify and lead improvements in architecture and operations to enhance reliability, security, scalability, cost efficiency, and developer productivity. Key initiatives include web application migrations, API and workflow modernization, and asynchronous service decoupling. The role requires partnering with various stakeholders, mentoring software engineers, and raising engineering standards to ensure the team delivers dependable platform capabilities and sustains long-term technical progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelors + 8 years of software engineering experience, or Masters + 6 years of software engineering experience, or PhD + 3 years of software engineering experience
  • Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining solutions using Java, Kotlin, or Scala.
  • Experience designing and operating distributed systems that integrate with identity and access management solutions, including microservices and APIs.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives, software and system architecture design, and mentorship of software engineers.
  • Experience delivering production software in an Agile/Scrum framework.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with IAM concepts, including authentication, authorization, single sign-on, role-based access control, and identity lifecycle management.
  • Experience with IAM protocols and standards: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML, and SCIM.
  • Experience defining technical roadmaps involving cloud-native architectures, observability, automated testing, continuous delivery, and production operations.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical direction for the Account Management Platform.
  • Guide architecture across secure, scalable microservices, high-throughput APIs, and customer-facing web applications.
  • Identify gaps in architecture and operations, then initiate and lead improvements that strengthen reliability, security, scalability, cost efficiency, and developer productivity.
  • Lead high-impact initiatives such as web application migrations, API and workflow modernization, and asynchronous service decoupling.
  • Partner with engineering, product, security, customer success, and other stakeholders to align priorities, communicate complex decisions, and deliver results across organizational boundaries.
  • Mentor software engineers and raise engineering standards so the team can deliver dependable platform capabilities and sustain long-term technical progress.
