About The Position

Allegion is seeking a Lead Site Reliability Engineer to join our global organization. As a technical authority on our SRE team, you will shape reliability architecture across multiple products, govern our SLO/error-budget framework, and drive the tooling and automation decisions that keep our systems highly available at scale. This is a senior individual-contributor role: you’ll lead through technical depth and cross-functional influence, mentoring engineers and setting standards rather than managing headcount. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. The company does not intend to provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, TN, etc.) for this employment position.

Requirements

  • Degree in computer science, networking, or a related IT field, and/or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of combined software/IT experience, including 5+ years in a Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or systems reliability role.
  • Demonstrated experience owning SLI/SLO design, error budget policy, and capacity planning across multiple services or products.
  • Proven track record leading incident response and blameless postmortems, including for high-complexity or high-impact incidents.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS or Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS/AKS); proficiency in either platform is acceptable.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep/ARM) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitLab).
  • Strong scripting/automation skills (Python, Go, Bash, or similar) to eliminate toil and build reliability tooling.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Sentry, Elastic, CloudWatch, or Azure Monitor).
  • Solid understanding of networking principles, TLS/encryption concepts, REST APIs, firewalls, and load-balancing/reverse proxies.
  • Ability to evaluate and recommend reliability/automation tooling against organizational needs, weighing maturity, scalability, and cost.
  • Strong mentorship instincts and the ability to influence engineering practice without direct management authority.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts at multiple levels of the organization, including with senior management.
  • Experience working with and leading through remote/distributed teams.
  • Passion for SRE, Agile, and security practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience productionizing or supporting ML model serving/observability (e.g., Azure ML, KServe, Seldon, MLflow).
  • Familiarity with SOC2 or similar compliance/audit processes.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible.
  • Experience setting up performance/load-testing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Defining and governing SLO/SLI, error budget, RPO, MTTA, and MTTR frameworks across multiple products.
  • Leading capacity planning and shaping reliability architecture across the production ecosystem.
  • Serving as the SRE technical authority on cross-functional projects, interfacing directly with engineering management and partner teams.
  • Evaluating reliability tooling and automation frameworks against organizational needs, weighing maturity, scalability, and fit with the existing observability stack.
  • Leading incident response and blameless postmortems for high-complexity, high-impact incidents.
  • Driving toil reduction through automation and influencing broader reliability culture and practices.
  • Lead the design of SLO frameworks, observability pipelines (metrics, logs, traces), and incident management practices across multiple services and teams.
  • Own reliability for critical or high-complexity services, translating conceptual system requirements into concrete SLO, SLI, RPO, MTTA, and MTTR specifications.
  • Provide technical leadership on multiple medium-to-high complexity reliability initiatives, guiding teams through advanced reliability challenges.
  • Lead cross-functional reliability reviews, offering expert feedback on architecture, SLO design, and observability coverage, and influencing organizational SRE standards.
  • Champion reuse of reliability tooling and automation across teams, implementing scalable solutions that maximize operational efficiency.
  • Mentor Senior and mid-level SREs; consult on SRE methods and procedures with guidance from senior leadership.
  • Drive an AI-first culture to reduce toil and repetitive operational work.
  • Apply enterprise security policies and standards across all operational and reliability work.
  • Represent the SRE function in cross-functional forums, translating reliability outcomes into business impact.
  • Stay current with emerging reliability, observability, and automation technologies and recommend adoption where it improves organizational outcomes.

  • 401K plan, offering a 6% company match and no vesting period
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Employee Discounts through Perks at Work
