About The Position

This role provides direct support to sheltering services for the homeless population at ARCHES shelters in Polk and Marion counties. Responsibilities include supporting daily operations, such as cleaning and laundry services, clerical duties, data collection & entry, assisting clients with navigation to resources, answering client questions, and other special projects as needed. The Lead Site Assistant will also be responsible for training and updating Site Assistants and volunteers on applicable policies and procedures and exercise strong decision-making skills while providing leadership when urgent matters arise while management is not available or on site. This team offers growth opportunities and professional development through hands-on experience. The position requires flexibility and involves a Sunday to Thursday swing shift.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in customer service, social services, or other client-facing roles.
  • Driver qualifications are required for this position.
  • Valid driver license.
  • Insured vehicle available for use on the job.
  • Satisfactory drive record for the previous three years.
  • Candidate must pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening prior to employment.
  • Candidate must pass Oregon Department of Human Services criminal background check.
  • Candidate must pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings.
  • Basic Life Support/First Aid Certification is required within first 30 days of hire.
  • Food Handler's Card or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Demonstrated proficiencies in Microsoft Office (including Outlook), videoconferencing platforms, and web tools.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and engages with others in a cooperative and supportive manner.
  • Demonstrates tact, diplomacy and empathy when communicating formally and informally with clients, staff and program partners.
  • Ability to work effectively and maintain positive, professional relationships with team members and clients.

  • Manual dexterity for handling personal items, food, clothing, sacks, carts and use of computers and written in-take processing.
  • Requires frequent moving/walking and standing in the shelter setting and outdoor spaces.
  • Driving in all weather conditions to ARCHES sites in Polk and Marion counties.
  • Maintains calm disposition when clients or others may become escalated, applying crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques for all participants.
  • Regulates emotions during interactions with escalated clients and staff.
  • Regulates emotions and handles pressures of frequent demands for attention, time and work tasks.
  • Ability to move about the workspace.
  • Ability to reach and/or extend to access materials or equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Responding to guest questions about clothing, snacks, blankets, restrooms, charging stations, and local resources.
  • Monitoring the program expectations of residents.
  • Providing program support, such as cleaning, site upkeep, laundry, supportive services, and client engagement.
  • Assisting other staff and volunteers in providing a calm, clean, and safe environment for residents.
  • Sharing information, resources, and referrals about community partnerships and resources.
  • Promoting a safe and healing environment for individuals that are victims of trauma through trauma-informed engagements, clear boundaries, and supportive case management.
  • Attending and engaging in required annual trainings and remaining up-to-date on policies and procedures for the ARCHES program.
  • Pursuing Program Critical Strategic Goals, including embracing the mission and philosophy of Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, client-centered services, Coordinated Assessment, and Harm Reduction.
  • Performing cleaning, janitorial, and laundry tasks in support of day-to-day sheltering operations.
  • Supporting nutrition staff as needed by completing various kitchen tasks, including cooking meals.
  • Participating in Community Outreach to local organizations, camps, and groups as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintaining appropriate boundaries with clients and coworkers at all times.
  • Consistent punctuality and reliable attendance are essential requirements for this role.
  • Ability to work effectively and maintain positive, professional relationships with team members and clients.
