About The Position

This role enforces the organization's policies and procedures with all patients/residents, visitors, and staff. The Lead Security Officer patrols and secures facility buildings and grounds, monitors the conduct of visitors, and responds to all requests for assistance. This position requires the ability to work with all age groups and prioritize calls for service based on safety needs. Security officers are expected to work in highly stressful situations, de-escalate situations, and maintain awareness of local laws. The necessary skills involve effective communication, professional report writing, and the physical ability to perform basic security functions. This position may have access to areas where medications are stored. The role serves as a resource for questions and concerns, oversees day-to-day activities, and effectively prioritizes and escalates issues when necessary. Demonstrates leadership qualities: intelligence, persistence, integrity, and confidence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • College or vocational education is preferred.
  • Prior experience healthcare security, contract security and/or law enforcement is highly preferred.
  • May require a current valid driver's license with Sanford insurability dependent upon region.
  • Advanced certification by International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety required within one year of hire.
  • Communicate effectively with all customers.
  • Ability to write professional reports.
  • Demonstrate the physical ability to perform basic security officers functions as trained.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces the organization's policies and procedures with all patients/residents, visitors and staff.
  • Patrols and secures facility buildings and grounds as assigned.
  • Monitors conduct of visitors on premises and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning.
  • Reports safety, fire hazards or security violations.
  • Responds to all requests for assistance from employees and visitors.
  • Assists with any and all situation; i.e., problem-solving with positive outcomes.
  • May escort personnel to and from parking areas as requested.
  • Maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
  • Ability to work with all age groups.
  • Must be able to prioritize calls for service in order of urgency based on safety needs.
  • De-escalate situations as soon as possible.
  • Maintain awareness of local laws which affect the way individuals conduct themselves on private property.
  • Serves as a resource for questions and concerns and oversees day to day activities.
  • Effectively prioritizes, follow-up skills and the ability to escalate issues when necessary.
