The Lead Respiratory Care Practitioner oversees clinical functions related to the delivery of respiratory therapy, the quality of practice, and the standards of care for the assigned shift. Coordinates respiratory therapy activities by directing staff and functions on the unit, while maintaining an advanced level of clinical skills and expertise. Evaluates pulmonary dysfunction and performs cardiopulmonary procedures to treat and care for the patient by means of respiratory therapy and ventilatory assistance, and is responsible and accountable for the performance of all respiratory care modalities; assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the needs of the patient. Provides patient education, and initiates and updates patient care plans. Provides break relief coverage for the shift. Troubleshoots and resolves issues as they arise. Functions as a role model and clinical resource to staff and patients.
