Under minimal supervision, the Lead Research Specialist performs specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures, using independent judgment to apply or adapt scientific techniques. The position may assist with protocol design, investigate and propose alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator, and help plan and schedule research procedures. The role analyzes and interprets study results, trains others in laboratory techniques and equipment operation, and calibrates, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains equipment. It also reviews and compiles research literature, monitors laboratory quality assurance processes and hazardous-substance handling, and records, compiles, and analyzes study data, preparing charts and graphs. Employees may be required to work with potentially hazardous agents and take specific precautions against them or receive immunizations. Tasks are generally performed in person at an Emory University location; remote-work days may be granted at department discretion, and Emory may change remote-work status with notice.
