The Mechanical and Reliability Department provides innovative solutions for electronic prototypes designed for advanced sensing, communication, and navigation systems. Areas of expertise include ground, airborne and shipboard systems. Engineers from the group are critical to all aspects of prototype or system development beginning with conceptual design, continuing through detail design, system integration and test, fabrication, and environmental testing. We provide technical guidance through rigorous analytical, physical, and computational methods with data driven products to enhance decision making and risk management.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
  • B.S. in electrical or mechanical engineering or physics with RMA or operations research or systems engineering background
  • 5+ years’ experience with RMA analysis, predictions and modeling techniques
  • 5+ years’ experience with FMECA
  • 5+ years’ experience with Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) process
  • 5+ years’ experience with RMA testing, including reliability growth testing, qualification testing, and production testing
  • Ability to formulate RMA requirements based on user mission concept
  • Direct experience building system predictive models using RMA software tools
  • Familiarity with concepts in software reliability
  • Familiarity with concepts of digital engineering such as SysML and other model architectures
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain a U.S. government Top Secret security clearance within one year from the date of hire
  • Per the U.S. Government’s eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced engineering degree (M.S. or PhD) with background in RMA
  • 10+ years of experience performing reliability engineering activities
  • Experience performing RMA activities in a Department of War (DoW) program environment
  • Knowledge of reliability growth theory and tools and performing RMA testing
  • Experience leading engineering tasks
  • Experience proposing RMA infrastructure and technology development efforts
  • Knowledge of predictive maintenance models and reliability centered maintenance (RCM) principles

Responsibilities

  • Develop and specify RMA requirements for new complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Conduct system RMA modeling and analyses
  • Assess Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
  • Participate in design reviews and assessments
  • Participate in test planning and evaluations
  • Assess failure analyses, corrective actions, and reliability growth curves
  • Conduct field evaluations and sustainment support to include sparing analysis and obsolescence risk analysis
  • Assess production testing plans to include Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) and lot sampling plans
  • Participate in the execution of in-house environmental and reliability testing
  • Present findings and recommendations to MITRE program managers and sponsor organizations
