About The Position

This position serves in a lead clerical capacity at the Bozeman, Region 3 Headquarters office and requires a positive, resilient, and adaptable attitude, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, public-facing environment. The position assists with supervising and supporting work-study students, providing training and guidance, and helping establish consistent, professional customer service standards. The successful candidate will lead by example, maintain a positive approach when handling challenging situations, and help ensure customers receive accurate, courteous, and consistent service across multiple offices within the region. This position will help with scheduling front office coverage, on-boarding new employees, and assisting with regional public comment and environmental assessments. The incumbent will assist the office manager with communication between internal teams, external partners and the public. They will help align regional and agency goals while establishing clear parameters that support streamlined projects, continuous process evaluation, and ongoing improvement. Specific duties may include selling hunting and fishing licenses; providing current regulations, agency information, and program resources; answering phones and assisting customers in person; restocking resource materials; assisting with FAS fee processing; assisting with animal tagging; conducting Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) boat inspections; answering Block Management questions; balancing cash drawers; and assisting FWP staff with special projects and other duties as needed. Additional responsibility of day-to-day supervision of work-study students, helping train and mentor student employees, coordinating tasks as appropriate, and providing support and direction to ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently, and professionally. The position is expected to demonstrate dependability, sound judgment, teamwork, flexibility, integrity and a positive attitude while serving as a resource for both customers and staff. This position will require travel to assist with coverage at the Butte and Helena offices as needed when administrative staff are absent.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of job-related work experience.
  • Ability to follow instructions and agency policies and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and circumstances.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including professionalism, courtesy, effective communication, and a commitment to meeting the needs of customers and the public.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently and exercise good judgment in an office setting with numerous interruptions.
  • Ability to handle several multi-level functions simultaneously.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time at the front counter issuing licenses during “peak” seasons.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time in a confined position, working on various computer assignments with repetitive hand movements and artificial lighting.
  • Ability to lift 40-pound boxes.
