About The Position

This position will design civil engineering projects with a focus area of transportation and traffic. It is recognized as a technical specialist with in-depth knowledge in this area and may serve as an internal consulting resource to other professionals on projects throughout the company. Working closely with the Project Manager, this role may identify and develop the scope of work, meet customer expectations, assist in pricing contracts, perform engineering services, oversee project quality, identify and manage resources for specific projects, and meet project deadlines and profitability goals. The position may also serve as the Engineer of Record on project plans and documents, with a specific focus on traffic projects including traffic studies, modeling, and design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering field required.
  • 8+ years engineering experience in transportation.
  • P.E. licensure required.
  • Knowledge/experience of Microstation, Geopak/Inroads, AutoCAD/Civil 3D strongly preferred.
  • Must obtain professional licensure in the states required by the company as soon as possible.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Excellent listening and reading skills, including proofreading.

  • Knowledge of highway design standards, DOT design policies and plan preparation criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a technical specialist in transportation projects.
  • Develops plans and specifications for state and municipal transportation projects.
  • Focuses on roadway, drainage, and traffic signal design work.
  • Performs traffic analysis/traffic studies as needed.
  • Utilizes Microstation and OpenRoads or AutoCAD and Visum or Syncho.
  • Writes technical reports and conducts conceptual design studies.
  • Provides internal technical advice to project managers for proposals and client presentations.
  • Collaborates with project managers on project planning, scope development, concepts, strategies, task organization, estimates, fee structure, risk management, resource identification, and schedules.
  • Collaborates on cost and budget estimates for projects.
  • Directs, manages, and participates in project deliverables, including signing and sealing work products as a Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Performs preliminary studies, plans, and cost estimates.
  • Plans, oversees, and develops final reports for studies.
  • Defines and oversees the design process.
  • Conducts project status/review meetings.
  • Develops and produces specification and contract documents.
  • Oversees bidding and contract award.
  • Provides contract administration oversight.
  • Monitors and maintains quality on all facets of project deliverables.
  • Performs site investigations and prepares reports documenting existing conditions.
  • Provides input to project managers regarding monthly project accounting, including review of time and expense charges.
  • Oversees and directs the assignments of engineers and technicians on a project.
  • Develops and fosters an open environment encouraging communication and collaboration among team members.
  • Provides constructive performance feedback and coaching to project team members.
  • Provides performance information on project team members to the team leader, Delivery/Marketing leader, or project manager.
  • Stays abreast of new engineering trends, techniques, strategies, philosophies, and methods.
  • Participates in professional organizations in the engineer’s area of expertise and/or client focus.
  • Maintains professional licensure in required states.
  • Regularly analyzes specific issues on project managers' projects to recommend efficient and cost-effective solutions.
  • Meets with vendors of equipment on a technical basis with project managers and project teams.
  • Selects appropriate materials and equipment for project applications, considering performance, costs, and operation/maintenance.
  • Manages engineering work and interfaces with other disciplines.
  • Typically handles multiple projects for multiple clients simultaneously.
  • Visits clients and job sites as needed to support projects and business development.
  • Serves as a consultant on transportation projects during the construction phase.
  • Typically works with complex, difficult projects that could also be large in scope and complexity.
  • Employee owners are expected to take on additional responsibilities as requested.
