About The Position

Accenture Infrastructure & Capital Projects is seeking a Lead Project Cost Estimator to join their growing buildings team. This role involves leading, supervising, and assigning daily work to a team of estimators, planning, preparing, and overseeing construction cost estimates for buildings and facilities. The position also includes preparing and reviewing cost estimates for school construction grants, validating estimates from architects and engineers, collaborating to resolve discrepancies and establish budgets, analyzing bid variances, reviewing contractor cost breakdowns, evaluating change orders, establishing procedures for project approvals and bidding, developing cost-tracking systems, conducting training sessions, establishing project budgets, estimating property damage costs, and providing pricing and claims support. The work location is onsite at client sites.

Requirements

  • Fourteen (14) years full-time paid professional experience in the preparation of complete cost estimates for major/complex type I, II, or III, and V building construction as defined by the State building codes AND Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering or construction management AND Three (3) years of full-time paid experience in supervising estimators AND Must have worked for a construction cost consulting firm for at least five (5) years
  • Twenty (20) or more years solid full-time paid professional experience in the preparation of complete cost estimates for major/complex type I, II, or III, and V building construction as defined by the State building codes AND Degree not required AND Five (5) years of full-time paid experience in supervising estimators AND Must have worked for a construction cost consulting firm for at least five (5) years

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and assign daily work to a team of estimators.
  • Plan, prepare, and oversee construction cost estimates for buildings and other facilities based on drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates and supporting documentation used to secure state and federal school construction grants and loans.
  • Review and validate construction cost estimates submitted by architects and engineers, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with District estimates.
  • Collaborate and negotiate with architects and engineers to resolve estimate discrepancies and establish agreed-upon project budgets.
  • Analyze significant bid variances and prepare reports explaining differences between contractor bids and estimated costs.
  • Review contractor cost breakdowns and recommend acceptance or rejection for progress payment purposes.
  • Evaluate change orders, determine the validity of proposed extras or credits, and approve or reject submissions accordingly.
  • Establish and maintain procedures for project approvals, plan reviews, specifications, and public bidding processes.
  • Develop and maintain cost-tracking systems, records, reports, charts, and data comparing estimated versus actual construction costs.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions for staff and contractors on construction bidding, contracts, and cost-estimating practices.
  • Establish project budgets, estimate property damage costs, support related departmental functions, and prepare independent cost estimates to strengthen negotiation positions.
  • Provide pricing and claims support by preparing change order estimates, conducting claim analyses, reviewing contractor claims and proposals, and assisting in contract negotiations.
