About The Position

The incumbent is responsible for the management and execution of projects related to customer equipment, facilities, or infrastructure. As such, they are responsible for project delivery, profit and loss accountability, and customer satisfaction by managing project-related activities and resources. They are responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or are focused on the execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results. The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, or a high school diploma / GED with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in the relevant functions.
  • Deep domain knowledge of planning and use of Primavera.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of cost control function on large complex turnkey projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Established project management skills.
  • Knowledge & Experience on Planning Tools - MS Project, P6.
  • Familiar with project costs management.
  • Able to explain how costs are structured (type of costs, how they are grouped/categorized/reported).
  • Able to explain how costs are tracked (how as sold is identified, which tools are used (SAP), how costs are reported, how variances are tracked and reported, any customized template).
  • How invoices are tracked (what's the involvement in the process).

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years planning large turnkey projects.
  • Experience on at least two (2) projects with cost control responsibilities on large turnkey projects.
  • Experience as a lead planner on at least two (2) turnkey projects.
  • Knowledge of forensic analysis on large complex turnkey projects.
  • Bilingual French/English.
  • Identifying the key stakeholders from whom to obtain necessary information and explaining or illustrating how to initiate the planning process (proactivity).
  • Clearly identifying and understanding the scope of work by reading the contract, while actively engaging the project manager or construction manager to prepare a contract summary.
  • Mobilizing each function leader to decompose the scope of work and agree on the schedule (proactivity/leadership).
  • Translating the scope of work, restrictions, constraints, and assumptions of the project into a schedule.
  • Good knowledge of how planning tools work, creating links in the schedule, task types, and work breakdown structure (WBS) (technical skills).
  • Clearly identifying critical paths 1, 2, and 3.
  • Using the tool to produce reports on project task variances, using different baselines and explaining their usefulness, including comparing the contractual baseline, target baseline, previous month's plan, and forecast dates (technical skills/autonomy in work organization).
  • Establishing and explaining a project planning cadence, including the types of activities to be performed, their frequency, and the stakeholders involved (proactivity/leadership).
  • Explaining the impacts of schedule management on contractual discussions, including customer delays, internal delays, and forensic analysis (technical skills/proactivity/leadership).

Responsibilities

  • Develop integrated schedules for tenders and cost estimates.
  • Prepare the project schedule and budget using planning and cost control tools.
  • Ensure compliance with the global standard process for project control.
  • Support the project manager to align project budgets with the sold scope in appropriate systems.
  • Maintain the project schedule and cost forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Analyze schedule and cost trends and provide corresponding forecasts to the project team.
  • Maintain a register of potential schedule and cost risks.
  • Maintain a register of actual and committed costs.
  • Check and control cost movements, compare them with the current scope, project progress, and previous forecasts; also compare productivity factors and validate the accuracy of estimates.
  • Communicate schedule and cost status, forecasts, and risks to functional cost owners and drive or support the implementation of mitigation measures.
  • Produce internal and external project status reports.
  • Collaborate with third parties regarding project costs and schedules.
  • Present all financial data transparently and participate in project and management reviews to present cost status.
  • Provide calculations related to change orders to ensure the accuracy of cost and schedule estimates.
  • Update changes in appropriate systems to ensure costs reflect the current situation.
  • Work closely with the financial controller to ensure reconciliation between approved project financial data and accounting records.
  • Support project close-out activities and claims management.
  • Provide support for tender activities.
  • Oversee the planning function within the project.
  • Ensure the quality of project control reports.
  • Ensure the accuracy of cost budgets, actual costs, and forecasts.
  • Promote collaboration with functional cost owners to identify cost reduction strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with established standards, particularly regarding work breakdown structure (WBS), processes, procedures, and tool usage.
  • Ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the project cost control team, where applicable.
  • Comply with Quality Procedures, work instructions, and Processes at GSI level and Project Controls Function.
  • Report or resolve any non-conformances and process deviations in a timely manner.
  • Identify areas for standardization or optimization and, where possible, participate in a Kaizen or similar Lean event to implement identified improvements.
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety through participation in formal and informal discussions.
  • Adhere to all safe working procedures in accordance with current directives.
  • Ensure compliance with safety work instructions.
  • Participate in the resolution of safety issues.
  • Implement actions to improve health and safety, when required.
