Lead Product Manager, Acquisition (scribd.com)

ScribdSan Francisco, CA
Hybrid

About The Position

Scribd, Inc. is seeking a Lead Product Manager to own how the company acquires new users. While Performance Marketing, SEO, Partnerships, and Brand manage the day-to-day operations of acquisition channels, this role serves as their product counterpart. The Lead Product Manager will define target audiences, strategies for broadening the channel mix over time, and the necessary product development to achieve these goals, owning the roadmap and engineering investment behind this plan. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of acquisition expertise and strong product management skills, leading through influence to guide the future direction of acquisition efforts. This role will significantly impact who discovers Scribd's products and the durability of its growth.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in product management or growth, with at least 2 years focused on user acquisition, preferably in a consumer subscription business.
  • A hybrid background: a product manager with deep growth marketing experience, or a growth marketer with equally strong product management experience.
  • Working fluency across acquisition channels, including paid search and social, SEO and organic discovery, partnerships, and product-driven acquisition, with a clear understanding of the strengths and tradeoffs of each.
  • The credibility to be a genuine peer to channel experts, capable of engaging deeply with paid marketers or SEO specialists to build trust without needing to manage their channels directly.
  • A track record of building acquisition mechanics into a product, such as growth loops, in addition to optimizing paid channels.
  • Strong proficiency in data analytics, experimentation, attribution, and funnel optimization, with the ability to connect acquisition decisions to long-term subscriber value rather than just cost per acquisition or volume.
  • A proven ability to influence without direct authority and build alignment across marketing and product organizations.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a bias toward defining new charters rather than inheriting established roadmaps.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience optimizing for AI search and answer engines.
  • Experience with SEO at significant scale.
  • Experience with B2C/B2B2C distribution models.

Responsibilities

  • Own the acquisition roadmap and direct its engineering investment, adapting to market shifts.
  • Develop and maintain a cross-channel view of acquisition investment effectiveness, providing clear, evidence-backed recommendations to channel owners and leadership.
  • Integrate acquisition into the product itself through features like referrals, sharing, and other user-driven experiences.
  • Build and maintain product capabilities to enhance channel effectiveness, including discoverability, search and AI-answer-engine readiness, channel integrations, and acquisition tracking, in collaboration with channel teams.
  • Identify and test new user acquisition methods, scaling those that prove durable.
  • Collaborate closely with Performance Marketing, SEO, Partnerships, and Brand to ensure product and channel investments are mutually reinforcing, with each team retaining ownership of strategy and execution within their respective channels.
  • Establish the measurement standards for acquisition, linking investment to the long-term value of subscribers rather than solely focusing on traffic or signup volume.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Design, Analytics, Data Science, Product, Marketing, and Brand teams.
