Lead Product Engineer

Humana•Work at Home - Kentucky, KY
•$129,300 - $177,800•Remote

About The Position

Humana’s Digital Health Platform (DHP) Product Engineering builds shared foundations used by Humana’s consumer digital experiences and platform teams, including a micro-frontend catalog, accessibility tooling, and API foundations. The Lead Product Engineer sets technical direction, continues to ship production code, and helps establish an emerging skills-driven practice in which AI coding agents use reusable instructions for recurring tasks. The role has no direct reports and leads through hands-on contribution, technical ownership, and influence across product teams. The Lead owns the technical approach and product outcomes for the team’s products, as well as the shared AI coding skills and tooling the team relies on. This includes shaping products around user needs, defining how impact is measured, setting engineering standards, coaching engineers, and helping other platform teams adopt the practice. The team’s delivery remains the priority. This is a remote position with occasional travel to Humana offices for training or meetings. Home or hybrid home/office employees must have internet service with at least 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload and work from a dedicated space that protects member PHI/HIPAA information. The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week.

  • Work with users and stakeholders to understand problems, partner with the Product Owner on priorities, and run discovery, spikes, and prototypes before committing to work.
  • Define how the team measures product impact for Humana members and patients and for platform teams, and use results to inform roadmap decisions.
  • Set standards for test-driven development, accessibility, performance, security, and review of AI-generated code.
  • Develop engineers’ judgment through pairing, design reviews, and code reviews.
  • Own the shared AI coding skills and tooling used by the team, including their standards, review, and roadmap.
