About The Position

CBS Sports isn't just an app; it’s the digital stadium for millions of fans. We own the rights and the data that matter—NFL, UEFA Champions League, March Madness, the Masters, and the UFC. When a game is on the line, we are the primary screen in every pocket. But we aren't just a scoreboard. We are a massive content engine of fantasy leagues, brackets, live video, and deep journalism. We build for the electric atmosphere of a playoff Sunday and the daily ritual of a Tuesday morning trade rumor. We have the scale of a legacy giant and the soul of a startup that’s obsessed with what happens when you use AI to build faster than the competition. You'll be a lead designer on a cross-functional squad shipping features across the CBS Sports App for iOS and Android. You'll work directly with a PM and a handful of engineers on problems that show up in the product within weeks, not quarters. The day-to-day is wide. Some weeks you're deep in audience behavior data, pulling analytics directly to understand how fans actually move through the product and where they get stuck. You'll build user profiles, map out flows, and test concepts directly with fans—sometimes running your own surveys alongside our research team to make sure our strategy is crystal clear. Other days, you're prototyping in an LLM or deep in code, building something interactive to see if an idea actually works at speed. Others you're in Figma tightening states, specs, and details with your engineer. We don't split research, prototyping, and production across different people. You move across all of it.

Requirements

  • 8-10 Years of Experience in end-to-end product design.
  • A portfolio showcasing shipped consumer mobile work with interaction decisions, visual craft, and systems thinking.
  • Strong technical intuition and code-confidence.
  • Understanding of foundational digital product architecture (data flow, repos, logic structure).
  • Experience designing and shipping mobile applications.
  • Ability to treat research as a velocity tool, not a gate.
  • High agency, high urgency, and a "builder" mindset.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and provide/receive feedback.

Nice To Haves

  • A genuine obsession with sports, betting, live events, or broadcast media.
  • Motion and interaction design skills.
  • Contributions to or management of a complex design system.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with a PM and engineers on shipping features across the CBS Sports App for iOS and Android.
  • Analyze audience behavior data and product analytics to understand user flow and identify areas of friction.
  • Build user profiles and map out user flows.
  • Test concepts directly with fans, potentially running surveys alongside the research team.
  • Prototype using LLMs or code to test interactive ideas.
  • Collaborate with engineers in Figma to refine states, specs, and details.
  • Own the result and be accountable for outcomes, focusing on moving specific metrics.
  • Read product analytics, understand the audience, and adjust direction based on data.
  • Give and receive feedback readily with engineers and PMs.
  • Use AI to think through problems, stress-test hierarchies, explore edge cases, and draft specs.
  • Use tools like Cursor or Claude to concept, pull from code repos to iterate, and build prototypes with real data feeds.
  • Push changes directly into the product with engineer review when appropriate.
  • Use the Figma canvas for exploration, sweating visual details, and exploring high-polish ideas.
  • Set specific visual rules to guide AI tools.
  • Plan, structure, and generate scalable solutions using AI and Figma.
  • Use AI to create internal SaaS-style tools to improve squad efficiency.
